This review is from: Shooting Script (Coronet Books) (Paperback)
I used to own a copy of this book, which I had read right after it came out. Somehow over the years it got lost. I literally had to scour the Earth to find a copy (in the UK) and bought it through Amazon. It's an entertaining read about a free-lance air cargo pilot who becomes tangled in a web of deceit, politics, and finally war during a time of upheaval in Central America. He is chartered to fly a camera plane for a film company which is shooting a movie starring a famous John Wayne-esque actor about a tough loner who supports rebels bringing down a dictator. The story line of the book parallels the story line of the "shooting script" for the movie in many ways. Murder, mayhem, sabotage, and misunderstandings entangle the pilot and the actor in the affairs of a dictator whose rule of a fictional Central American country is being challenged by a rebel leader (a la Fidel Castro). Its main characters include the pilot, the famous actor, a lovely-but-tough lawyer, a mysterious and stunningly-beautiful senorita, and the actor's Latin American sidekick. And the whole Air Force of the dictator's country pitted against a shabby and worn-out World War II bomber and its pilot. Like stories about flying? About movies? About murder, espionage, mistaken identity, and intrigue? This book has 'em all. And more. Can a brick, or even a ton of bricks, destroy an airplane ... or ten? Read all about it in "Shooting Script." You'll like it ... or I'll eat my own copy of this uniquely charming, whimsical and highly entertaining action/adventure tale. This, my third reading of the book, continued to intrigue and entertain me. I'm glad I bought it.
