Book Description

April 13, 1999
A whack in the head...

Biofeedback specialist Carrie Carlin helps patients cope with pain, ADD kids manage their behavior, and overstressed Gen X'ers calm down.  But her own negative reaction when her lover, cop Ted Brodsky, mentions the M word (that's marriage, not murder) may spell the end to their relationship.  So might snooping into a homicide on Ted's turf.

A local philanthropist has been killed by a cyclist wielding an unusual murder weapon--a stick and a star.  And the elderly owner of the antiques store near Carrie's office is the only eyewitness.  Worried about her neighbor, Carrie quickly offers emotional support and her home as a refuge.  That simple gesture is about to land her in hot water, caught between Ted's anger at her meddling... and the deadly intentions of a killer who walks softly, holds a chilling secret, and may be closer than Carrie thinks....

Editorial Reviews

From Publishers Weekly

Carrie Carlin, a biofeedback clinician at a relaxation clinic and divorced mother of two, becomes entangled in the murder investigation of wealthy socialite Helena Forester after taking in an elderly friend, Frannie Gold, who happens to be the sole witness to the crime. Much to the chagrin of her boyfriend, Lieutenant Ted Brodsky, Carlin begins her own investigation into the case, speaking with suspects on the sly, many of whom are also her patients at the clinic. Soon, Carlin herself becomes the stalker's target, encouraging her to pick up the pace. She uncovers an intriguing secret side of Forester that involves the importation of Asian girls as sex slaves, the Japanese mafia, a disgruntled stepdaughter and shady ex-husbands. While Tesler, in her newest Carrie Carlin mystery (Sharks, Jellyfish and Other Deadly Things), skillfully hides the killer's identity, she sadly keeps the clamps closed on Carlin's personal motivation for taking over the investigation and bypassing the police.

Review

"Carrie is a clever, slightly neurotic heroine whose personal life is in disarray--the kind of heroine that Susan Isaacs might put in a mystery."

4.0 out of 5 stars Very Good, July 26, 1999

This review is from: Shooting Stars and Other Deadly Things (Mass Market Paperback)
This is the first book I have read by this author and bought it after reading the reviews posted here. I was not disappointed. It was very good. I enjoyed the story and when I thought I could predict who the killer was I found myself extremely wrong. Halfway through the book, I went out and bought her other books. I would definitely recommend this author.

She's very down-to-earth, as she tackles situations that leave her boyfriend (a cop) baffled. You'll love this one, and I also recommend the previous two books in this series.
