Review

“Week after week, Piers Morgan has taken on the National Rifle Association, the United States Congress, and numerous gun evangelists . . . and (thankfully) it doesn't look like he's going to give up.” (Michael Moore)

About the Author

Piers Morgan is known for hosting NBC’s runaway hit America’s Got Talent and his popular CNN show, Piers Morgan Tonight, which held the timeslot previously occupied by Larry King Live. Morgan started his career as a reporter for The Wimbledon News, and went on to work for The Sun and to become the youngest ever editor of News of the World in 1994. He then became the editor-in-chief of the Daily Mirror and then a columnist for GQ, as well as a host on the BBC before joining CNN in 2010.

I have been a listener of Piers and admired his coverage of some of the issues, but this book is disappointing. Between the lines you can smell self-glorification coupled with contents that do not deserve to be put into a book.

If you like Piers Morgan you will like this book. If you don't like Piers Morgan this book won't do anything to change your mind.

I tried very hard to like this book. His previous books were entertaining, but here Mr. Morgan is on a mission, and the quality suffers. He chooses to go back and attack those who disagreed with him (John Lott and Andrew Breitbart, for example) but conveniently ignores interviews in which he didn't necessarily come out on top (Ben Shapiro and Jonah Goldberg, to name two), which left me considering the author thin-skinned.

This book fell far short of being the promised no-holds barred account of Mr. Morgan and his show.

It was just ok. It was not what I expected. I like Piers however the book was just about his interactions with celebrities. I didn't find the book very fulfilling. Hi was very opinionated and mostly concerned about his ratings.

Just don't bother. You'll notice any good reviews are by fake accounts with no purchases (so in other words, his agent...)....

This book, like all of his, is just a diatribe of vanity, name-dropping and self promotion, barely masked with any subtlety at all.

Save your money, unless you're short of toilet roll. It's currently in my local poundland and they're not even shifting from there

So, this book is either 5 stars or one star? Nothing in-between? Do you think perhaps folks have their own politically-motivated agendas? Do you think that no matter how good the book is that pro-gun folks would give any more than one star? Or that no matter how bad the book is that anti-gun folks would give any less than 5 stars? I applaud Piers Morgan for taking an unpopular and very risky stance for what he believes is right, and for speaking out. Isn't that what America is all about?

Having watched the ascendancy of Piers Morgan on American TV live over the past 4 years, Shooting Straight tells the same story but from PM's perspective. One will learn how incredibly busy PM was trying to juggle his London family life and two TV shows at the same time. There are a few interesting anecdotes I hadn't known about some of his co-workers on AGT and CNN, but having watched his CNN Show from the beginning to his finding his voice over the Sandy Hook and Aurora shootings, there isn't much new to learn here. If u don't know Piers, this book will be revelatory. For those of us who do know him and his views, the book is just a repeat of what we already knew.

Another Amazon.com gift to M.E.S. (the best reader critic of this earth) M.E.S. says in his response to receiving and reading this particular book was " Piers Morgan I think is an acquired taste, I'm reading it piecemeal and have covered about a third of it. Its just his show verbatim, word for word. He has a unique way of dealing with his guests."
