Book Description

January 2, 2010
Since the 1970s, Doctor Who fans have written and produced fanzines. Some of the most quirky, passionate and subversive writing is still to be found in the pages of lovingly crafted, home-spun, desktop-published fanzines, and Shooty Dog Thing is no exception. Cool and accessible, Shooty Dog Thing is inspiring a new wave of fandom. This book will make you remember why you fell in love with Doctor Who in the first place; challenging established views, covering The Doctor's travels on TV, in books, comic strips and on audio; and finding reasons to love this very special show just that little bit more than the casual viewer. Shooty Dog Thing is louder, braver, and more loving. The best of the first 10 issues is compiled here for your enjoyment, along with some lovely, juicy new stuff, including contributions from Doctor Who writer Paul Cornell, Doctor Who historian David J. Howe and the original Doctor Who glamour girl, Anneke Wills. If you love Doctor Who, you'll love this.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great book!, October 15, 2010
This review is from: Shooty Dog Thing: Doctor Who Fans Writing on the Wall (Paperback)
Really interesting. Great for any true Doctor Who fan.
Apparently the best of the musings from the Shooty Dog Thing website, but for people like me, who can't be bothered with going to fansites to read stuff online and prefer to have an actual book to read, this is better by far.
I enjoyed being able to sit out in the garden in the shade of the trees on a warm sunny day and have the book in my hands to hold. Turning the pages of a book is so much more satisfying than reading words on a screen, at least it is to me anyway.

Loads of interesting stuff in this book, opinions, in-depth analysis, reviews, including reviews of the audios as well, a lot of concentration on the sixth Doctor's stories, tv, audio, books, which is fine as I think the sixth Doctor has been unfairly treated and if only the televised stories had been as good as most of his audio ones are, he would be classed as up there with the best, which is where he should be, and he certainly is the best of the audio Doctors.

No pictures, but so much of interest to read, it doesn't matter about the lack of visuals, though having some in future editions might be nice.

There is supposed to be a Shooty Dog Thing 2 book out about now, but haven't seen it yet. Can't wait!
