I purchased this lathe on Amazon for $497.00 no tax and free shipping. I needed a small lathe to do just one job.... turning some Delrin rod down to 32mm.
The Lathe arrived boxed in a thin wooden crate 10 days later via UPS. The crate was damaged, it had been dropped and had a huge hole underneath, My wife signed for it and never noticed the damage, so I unpacked it and found the lathe was remarkably undamaged apart from a broken cord that I repaired.
I had looked at the Harbor freight lathes and they looked "cheap" this one looked a little better but not much. I started using the lathe and it works fine for me, It is small! a bit too small really but it works. The side casing enclosing the gearbox is not alloy as I had thought but cheap plastic, the warning stickers are already coming off, as are the decals showing the switch settings. I really miss the compound cross slide feature that comes with the other lathes, guess I`ll just have to buy one as an extra part. Using the lathe you soon run out of feed on the tail stock and cross slide, you have to keep re-setting the tool post every time you want to change a tool. The lathe really needs to come with some "extras" to make it worth while, I had to go out and buy a chuck, live center, and cutting tools to get up and running.I took plenty of photos and some video of my setup, you will need to make a box to raise the lathe up to a good working height, otherwise your back will start aching!. Overall its OK, but honestly, buy a bigger one, and one that has a compound cross slide and no plastic parts. I will keep this lathe as it does what I needed it for, but for anything else bigger it will struggle. My advise if you need a tool for one purpose like me its OK, if you plan on doing other jobs...get a bigger lathe.
