4.0 out of 5 stars Nice Air Cleaner for DIYer
This unit does a pretty good job and, considering its affordability, I think it's a good value. I like it because it's easy to move around the house for projects that generate some dust. When I am sanding and I have it near by, I can see the dust heading straight into the unit and coming out clear on the other side. So, in my book, it does its job. It doesn't catch...

This unit works good. The trouble is that it is 2-stage not 3-stage and does not include the hardware to mount on the ceiling.

It doesn't catch all of the dust of course but it's much better than not having an air filter at all.

I'm also a woodworker, however, and I don't think I would ever consider using this as THE air filtration tool for my shop. I think they made a mistake by calling this a Shop Air Cleaner; if you have a woodshop and therefore generate a lot of dust, you may want to look at stepping up to a tool better suited for permanent installation on the ceiling.

For me, this tool is portable so that I can use it outside of my shop. So, if you would like something portable and affordable that keeps your lungs and house a little cleaner, I think it's worth the money.

5.0 out of 5 stars GREAT AIR CLEANER, August 17, 2001

I BOUGHT THIS UNIT TO COINCIDE WITH MY SHOP VAC TO KEEP THE DUST IN MY SHOP TO A MINIMUM. THE UNIT IS AWESOME, IT NOT ONLY KEEPS THE DUST DOWN, BUT WHEN I OPEN THE DOORS TO MY SHOP, IT CREATES A GOOD AIR FLOW TO CIRCULATE THE AIR, BRINGING IN COOLER AIR TO THE SHOP. UNIT IS GREAT, IT IS PORTABLE, SO THAT I CAN TAKE IT TO ANY SITE THAT I AM AT, OR I CAN EVEN TAKE IT INSIDE MY HOME TO CREATE MORE AIR FLOW IN THE SUMMER TO COOL THE HOUSE DOWN. ALL IN ALL, A GREAT INVESTMENT/ADDITION TO ANY SHOP. I HAVE OWNED SHOP VAC PRODUCTS OVER THE YEARS, THEY MAKE AN EXCELLENT PRODUCT!

4.0 out of 5 stars Great for small shop, March 31, 2004

Have this air cleaner in a small basement shop ( ~250 sq. ft) at my summer home where I have a table saw and many portable power tools. Air cleaner works well for that area keeping the dust down. Its very light and portable, so can move it and set on a table near your work. Would have given 5 stars if it had a mechanism to hang from the ceiling. I screwed some hooks to the joists and used some old chain and placed through the handles and that works fine. Glad I purchased this becasue there is noticably less dust in my shop.

Shop-Vac 103-00-00 Portable Shop Air Cleaner is great in the shop for collecting dust on drill press. Especially when using sanding cylinders. Put really does it's thing in the house, when cutting holes in drywall for a new wall oulet.

4.0 out of 5 stars Shop-Vac 103-00-00 Portable Shop Air Cleaner -Dust Collector, June 26, 2002
This review is from: Shop-Vac 1030000 Air Cleaner Filtration System (Tools & Home Improvement)
Scrollsawing leaves a lot of airborne fine dust. This asset is cleaning while I'm cutting. I had used a heavy mask before (scared the grandkids). It would probably be more efficient if I raised it closer to the saw table. AND it's affordable. Glad I finally got one. It's keeping the dust from circulating through the house- the wife loves that.

I do heavy duty wood carving and craft cutting in a very small space. The Shop vac is great, the best air cleaner that I have found in the 8 years that I have done wood art professionally, for the individual with limited space. It cleans well in a short period of time both small and larger particiles yet takes up little space and it is inexpensive compared to the importance of its task and to the price of other cleaners. I strongly recommend it to both the hobbyist and professional cutter. It protects your health without destorying your budget.

4.0 out of 5 stars Eliminates Fine Particles., March 19, 2007

I have a small shop and little or no ventilation. I use a vacuum system to collect the sawdust but the airborne dust remains an issue.

I have seen the suspended box filter systems and home-made box fans with furnace filters attached. I needed something portable with a good filter system.

This devise is portable, quiet, and move volumes of air in a very short time. I keep it near my band saw, sander, and router table with excellent results.

Purchased this item to work in Home to keep dust down, it is Noisy and ONLY has one speed! I kept this item close to 2 by material I was cutting and could not see much or hardly any thing being drawn into the unit while working.......an Hour latter I went back into (small room 8 by 10 BATH )dust had settled every where but inside of unit..........Very disapointed. Figure I lost [my investment.] I have no Idea what I can really use it for..Maybe use it in work sop in addtion to my other Air Cleaner...... I have a JDS unit in My work shop It keeps air clean CONSTANTLY! Maybe I was expectng to much...Best bet put a fan in a window and suck the dust and dirt out MUCH cheaper and works better than this thing!

1.0 out of 5 stars Not worth it, July 21, 2006

This review is from: Shop-Vac 1030000 Air Cleaner Filtration System (Tools & Home Improvement)
My shop is only 10'x12'. I thought this product would work well because of the size. Well, it does not.

For one thing, this item is huge. It's about 2 feet long and about a foot in diameter. It is not designed to be hung out of the way. Instead, it's meant to sit on a surface like on a bench top or the floor.

It does not suck air strongly enough. The effective distance that it affects is about 6 inches. If you are sanding beyond that, the dust will go elsewhere, and not get sucked into the air cleaner. You sort of wish that while the fine dust is airborn, the air cleaner will just pull it in. What I observed, though, is that everything in the shop is eventually covered with fine dust even while the so-called air cleaner is running continuously.

Crappy product. Don't buy it.
