I use this shop vac for basic cleanup around the garage and driveway, while I use the Makita for dust extraction with hand held power tools due to the smaller hose but better filtration. This shop vac is one of the few left that has a 2.5 inch hose and is able to suck up larger debris. The power is excellent, and compared to the ridgid I've had in the past, it's much less top heavy and less likely to fall over. I think the 20 gallon version might be more top heavy - it seems to be the same but taller.
I use a cleanstream hepa filter in it. I also use the yellow fine particulate bags. It seems like bags will cost you more money, but they end up saving you money - as they catch a lot of stuff that will clog your filter up rapidly and reduce suction, requiring a pricey new hepa filter. 2 stage filtration is definitely the way to go, not to mention the ease of simply taking a bag out of the vac and dropping it in the trash.
The seal between the vac is better than the ridgid but still not perfect. I added some weather stripping in the channel to act as a gasket. Remember that even if thee filter is hepa, the vac still probably isn't - the seal of the vac itself isn't good enough to be used for dangerous things like crystalline silica (e.g. concrete and stone grinding), asbestos, lead paint, or other highly toxic particulate matter. I don't really do those things anyways, and if I did, I'd use the Makita or a similar hepa rated vac.
The included accessories work well. There are 2 wands, a hose (2.Read more ›

Machine is a great but vacuum lacks power because of double duty as a blower. Fidgeting around with the fitting helps. Read morePublished on September 29, 2012 by Dale Reynolds
