As per an earlier review, I too have a 16 gallon Craftsman shop vac that utilizes a "red-stripe" filter. The vac is about 2 + years old so I was probably due for new filter. Even though the measurements of this replacement filter are slightly different than the Craftsman original filter, this replacement fit just fine, but did require that I use the original cap from the old filter instead of the one provided so it could be secured the the appropriate filter location on the vacuum. No problem - it fit just fine. I am very happy with this product and would definitely buy one again versus paying an outrageous amount to buy one from Sears.

This fits "OLDER" model Ridgid Vac's ( circa 1999). I had a hard time finding one locally so I checked Amazon and happened across this filter. Perfect fit.



I have noticed most folks that give negative reviews really don't do the proper research to actually understand what they are buying and end up blaming the site or seller for their own ignorance.

I have a Craftsman, 16 gallon Wet/Dry Vacuum. It came with a flexible filter that's open on both top and bottom. A metal cap with a hole drilled through the center and a plastic nut also came with the unit. This filter slides over a plastic frame inside the vacuum designed to keep it in place. The metal cap secures the bottom of the filter and the hole fits over a threaded knob on the plastic frame. The nut secures this in place. That's how the original filter is used.

The replacement filter is open on one end, but already has a metal cap on the bottom. However, there's no hole in the middle. In addition, the new filter is longer than the original one from Sears.

At first I thought I'd need to drill a hole in the new filter so it could fit over the threaded knob on the vacuum. But it turns out the replacement filter fits snugly over the plastic frame and stays in place once it is pushed all the way on. Plus, since the new filter is longer than the original, the metal cap doesn't need a hole to fit over the threaded knob and remains secure without the plastic nut.

So, if you have a Craftsman Wet/Dry vacuum these reasonably priced replacement filters can work for you.

The filter I received is not the same as the one pictured - and is not the same as a Craftsman "red-stripe" filter. This filter is taller, is closed/sealed off on one end with a metal lid and is open on the other with a black rubber gasket. There is no black plastic top with a central hole included. The interior of the filter has a metal grid. I didn't think it would work unless I drilled a hole through the metal can end so that the central stud could go through as another reviewer suggested. However, when I firmly pushed the new filter in place it just stayed there right over the central stud (since it is taller than the original red-stripe filter.) The tight-fitting rubber gasket design, along with the interior grid and closed metal end, make this filter much less flimsy than the red-stripe filters are. This filter seems to hold itself in place without the need for the plastic lock-down plate/nut. I have tested the vacuum a couple of times, and so far, at least, no problem.

As I was hoping, this is a good replacement for the standard Carfstman 16 gallon 'red stripe' filter. Although I didn't luck out and get a two pack as the earlier reviewer reported.

This is NOT 7x7, it is 7 x 8 1/2 and no center hole in the bottom plate. Be careful this doesn't fit the vacs they say it does........

This filter is designed to fit old Craftsman shop vacs. They fit and they work. No they don't have a hole like the ones that originally came with the vac, because these have been designed to fit without requiring the thumbscrew. These are EASIER to install than the originals. Good grief, how do some of these folks even manage to tie their own shoes?

Its a different size than the OEM (slightly taller, and doesn't have the hole for the plate to attach it, but it just fits snugly where it should be and works the exact same (with slightly more surface area).

Seems to be a lot of crybabies on this one. I also saved a few bucks by purchasing a "Used" one from the Amazon Outlet or whatever its called. Probably one that a crybaby gave half an attempt at putting on and gave up.

I have one of the old 12-gallon Ridgid Wet/Dry Vacs.
This filter fit it like a glove.

It has the holding plate fashioned in. You only need
the plastic screw cap to hold it in place.

I have an older Sears Craftsman shop vac. I don't know what the model is because the label fell off, but it is quite big, probably a 25 gallon container. I needed a new filter because the old one was at least 15 years old and falling apart. This one looked like it would fit and 'sho nuff', it does.
