5.0 out of 5 stars Biggest suck for the buck
6.25 horse power from a 9.5 amp motor? They must be pretty small horses! Even so this is quite simply the most powerful wet dry vac I've ever used. It makes dust collection on portable power tools a breeze. A dedicated tool vac with a current sensing switch is more convenient.( Fein , Porter Cable , Festo , etc.) But this is a lot cheaper and moves more air. It's also...

3.0 out of 5 stars DESIGN FLAWS ABOUND
Very powerful, picks up everything, even tools. However it has several design flaws. Could not have been designed by a user. Worst is instead of having the exhaust go up, they designed it to blow down, toward whatever you are trying to vacuum, so it blows the dust everywhere. Cord should have auto rewind. Hose should have handle(it is fat and hard to hold). Hose...

5.0 out of 5 stars Biggest suck for the buck, June 25, 2000
This review is from: Shop-Vac 9254310 18-Gallon 6.5-Peak HP Right Stuff Wet/Dry Vacuum (Tools & Home Improvement)
It's also very quiet compared to other vacs supposedly rated in the 5 or more horsepower range. You get Two sets of tools with it. One for the large hose and one for the small hose. I think I'd rather have one hose of better quality and longer length though. The threaded hose attachment is a giant improvement. How many times have you tried to move your shop vac by the hose only to find it loose in your hand ? No more. The filter that comes with it is also a vast improvement. It is a pleated canister that is washable when it finally gets clogged up. That means no more changing filters when going from dry to wet pick up. I washed mine the other day and set it in the sun to dry. It got ran over by a truck so it is no more. It was my truck and I was driving. I got a clean stream filter instead of the original. It seems to get fine dust a little better. For drywall dust I really recommend the drywall dust bag filters. They go a long time before clogging up. Much longer than the canister filters. For general grub work and heavy clean up I really like this vac. When I burn it up in a couple of years I'll probably get another one . By then they'll probably be rated at 11 amps and fifty horse power.

5.0 out of 5 stars The Essential Handy Little Powerhouse Of A Machine!, August 4, 2000

Anyone who lives in a rural area with spring run off and a high water table can find a thousand uses for one of these. With five very active Labrador Retrievers, my basement floor can get grubby and messy in a hurry, especially when I use it as the main entrance for them during bad weather. This unit will pick up snow, slush, mud, and all the other sorts of organic and inorganic matter with amazing speed, and it is easily and quickly drained and cleaned, as well. This is a powerful machine, yet is fairly quiet in operation. It is sturdy, quite mobile, and packs away in the corner of the basement unobtrusively after using it on the area like the wet and grubby area around the wood stack after bringing more wood in from outside. I've had mine for a couple of seasons now, and it still operates just as if it were new. It is effective, efficient, and well priced. In my opinion, it is a very good buy for the money. Enjoy!

4.0 out of 5 stars Shop Vac Dependability and Reliability..., June 21, 2000
This review is from: Shop-Vac 9254310 18-Gallon 6.5-Peak HP Right Stuff Wet/Dry Vacuum (Tools & Home Improvement)
I did side by side tests of both this unit and the 5.0 HP unit.I didn't see a noticeable difference. Both performedexceptionally.... The Shop Vac power, reliability and relatively quiet motor for a wet dry vacuum is the choice for those who purchase a tool once, expecting it to last. You can't go wrong with either of the models!

I finally found a shop vac that has enough suction to clean my vehicle carpets. I recently broke some glass on a cement floor--this shop vac made short order of cleaning up all the little sharp edges. The very best shop vac I have ever used.

Hose bends cutting off air flow whenever you vacuum close. Wheels stick out from body and catch on everything in its way. No brush provided with accessories. Don't use the bag if you are going to vacuum even the slightest damp stuff. Will break and you will have dust everywhere. Would be nice if hose was one or two feet longer. They advertise that the hose screws in and you can pull the vacuum by the hose. Hah! Half the time, the hose pulls out and you have to put it back together. A great idea with lousy execution.

4.0 out of 5 stars Good machine, but now a useless warranty, June 5, 2010

I used an almost identical ShopVac (20-gal, 6.5 hp) for a number of years, with heavy use, before the motor finally just burned out.

My biggest problem is that now Shpp-vac's normal 5-year warranty has shrunk to ONE YEAR ! At least on Amazon ....

That puts it in the cheapie ballpark like Craftsman's equivalent, but you have to wonder when they are no longer confident enough in their product to chop the warranty period to pieces.

I think it's time for me to look at Ridgid's brand -- made in the same factory as Craftsman's machines, but Ridgid still has a limited lifetime warranty.

Apparently Craftsman doesn't have a lot of confidence in their stuff anymore.

5.0 out of 5 stars WOW! Better than Expected., March 27, 2006

I am extremely pleased with the service, delivery and the ShopVac has already paid for itself in savings. I am delighted that the shop vac has such power and the attachments are wonderful. If there has to be something wrong it would be with the on/off switch begin push button and it would be better if it were a toggle. This product exceeds expectations and far out-performs the Rigid alternate.
