Shop-Vac 925-45-10 - an excellent choice for the money,
By "bhetherington" (San Antonio, Texas United States) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Shop-Vac 9254510 10-Gallon 6.5-Peak HP Right Stuff Wet/Dry Vacuum (Tools & Home Improvement)
I have this unit and am very pleased with it. The big 6 plus hp. motor pulling into the little 10 gallon tank make this the "hot rod" of portable vacuum units (as far as I am aware). I don't know of any competitive unit that will move 185 cfm of air. I bought this unit at about the same time I placed a new 650 cfm dust collector in service. My objective was to get a portable unit with enough muscle to be used in lieu of the larger dust collector for brief periods. The Shop-Vac 925-45-10 does this admirably. It pulls from my table saw, 6" jointer or 12" planer - not as well as my dust collector, but very respectably, nonetheless. I rated this unit only four stars because the motor is not serviceable. When a Shop-Vac motor burns out, our local factory authorized repair facility recommends trashing the entire unit and starting over again! Baloney! Why do I want to throw away a perfectly good stainless tank, dolly system and attachments? Before I settled on this unit, I looked seriously at the DeWalt models; I like their quiet operation and serviceable motors, but DeWalt doesn't publish a cfm spec. on their units and when I sent a message of inquiry - stating what I hoped to be able to do with the machine - I was politely ignored. So much for a sale that they might have had! Noise attenuation is another factor that's important to me and this model of Shop-Vac is at least respectable in this regard. Many mfgrs. still market older model designs with screaming motors; these are not acceptable to me at any price! The foregoing details the reasons why I'm a happy owner of a Shop-Vac 925-45-10. This is my fourth shop vacuum unit; I'm something of a "neatnik" and have worn out three other machines. Factoring in that experience, as well, I believe it's an outstanding machine for the money, and within the reservations I've described, gladly recommend it to anyone.

This review is from: Shop-Vac 9254510 10-Gallon 6.5-Peak HP Right Stuff Wet/Dry Vacuum (Tools & Home Improvement)
I received the above Shop Vac ... today. It was shipped disassembled and without the necessary nuts, bolts and instructions for assembly. While it doesn't take a rocket scientist to figure out how this thing goes together I did have to scrounge through my spare parts drawer to locate the necessary hardware to put this unit together. I'm sure ... would have sent a replacement but I didn't have the time nor want the aggrevation. The vac has good suction (but certainly not 6.25 HP as advertised)It is my understanding that this is Peak HP. To obtain Peak HP the volt/amp input is increased and the HP is measured at the point just before the unit goes up in smoke and melts. Not exactly usable HP. The hose is very short and the floor vac head is not angled at the hose connection which makes it difficult to maintain flat contact with the floor. I gave this unit a low 2 star rating because of poor engineering and packaging of product.

I've used many types of wet/dry vacuums at home and work. This vacuum has the max suction power without the usual huge container. How many homeowners need 20+ gallons, or have room to store it? The sound level is reduced far below the old style units, no more earplugs or complaining from the wife. Shoot, it's quieter than my old 1.5HP vac. The vac follows along when pulled by the hose instead of wandering aimlessly like those with casters. And the hose won't pull out because it's screwed on. In both function and appearance I give it the highest rating!
