Shop-Vac 925-45-10 - an excellent choice for the money,
By "bhetherington" (San Antonio, Texas United States) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Shop-Vac 9254510 10-Gallon 6.5-Peak HP Right Stuff Wet/Dry Vacuum (Tools & Home Improvement)
I have this unit and am very pleased with it. The big 6 plus hp. motor pulling into the little 10 gallon tank make this the "hot rod" of portable vacuum units (as far as I am aware). I don't know of any competitive unit that will move 185 cfm of air. I bought this unit at about the same time I placed a new 650 cfm dust collector in service. My objective was to get a portable unit with enough muscle to be used in lieu of the larger dust collector for brief periods. The Shop-Vac 925-45-10 does this admirably. It pulls from my table saw, 6" jointer or 12" planer - not as well as my dust collector, but very respectably, nonetheless. I rated this unit only four stars because the motor is not serviceable. When a Shop-Vac motor burns out, our local factory authorized repair facility recommends trashing the entire unit and starting over again! Baloney! Why do I want to throw away a perfectly good stainless tank, dolly system and attachments? Before I settled on this unit, I looked seriously at the DeWalt models; I like their quiet operation and serviceable motors, but DeWalt doesn't publish a cfm spec. on their units and when I sent a message of inquiry - stating what I hoped to be able to do with the machine - I was politely ignored. So much for a sale that they might have had! Noise attenuation is another factor that's important to me and this model of Shop-Vac is at least respectable in this regard. Many mfgrs. still market older model designs with screaming motors; these are not acceptable to me at any price! The foregoing details the reasons why I'm a happy owner of a Shop-Vac 925-45-10. This is my fourth shop vacuum unit; I'm something of a "neatnik" and have worn out three other machines. Factoring in that experience, as well, I believe it's an outstanding machine for the money, and within the reservations I've described, gladly recommend it to anyone.

I received the above Shop Vac ... today. It was shipped disassembled and without the necessary nuts, bolts and instructions for assembly. While it doesn't take a rocket scientist to figure out how this thing goes together I did have to scrounge through my spare parts drawer to locate the necessary hardware to put this unit together. I'm sure ... would have sent a replacement but I didn't have the time nor want the aggrevation. The vac has good suction (but certainly not 6.25 HP as advertised)It is my understanding that this is Peak HP. To obtain Peak HP the volt/amp input is increased and the HP is measured at the point just before the unit goes up in smoke and melts. Not exactly usable HP. The hose is very short and the floor vac head is not angled at the hose connection which makes it difficult to maintain flat contact with the floor. I gave this unit a low 2 star rating because of poor engineering and packaging of product.

Excellent Vac,

I've used many types of wet/dry vacuums at home and work. This vacuum has the max suction power without the usual huge container. How many homeowners need 20+ gallons, or have room to store it? The sound level is reduced far below the old style units, no more earplugs or complaining from the wife. Shoot, it's quieter than my old 1.5HP vac. The vac follows along when pulled by the hose instead of wandering aimlessly like those with casters. And the hose won't pull out because it's screwed on. In both function and appearance I give it the highest rating!

It goes together in 10 minutes and is made of quality parts. The stainless tanks speaks for itself. The motor/top locks on securely and is easily removed. The caster/wheels roll with little effort. The only thing I thought was odd is that the axle on my unit is about 4" too long. I can cut this down myself and it doesn't factor into the performance of this unit. Suction is excellent. Hose is only 6' long but there are two extension wands to make up for it. The hose pivots on both ends so it doesn't kink up at all. This is a key feature, especially with a shorter hose. Highly recommended.

First of all the service from amazon.com is second to none. The vacuum arrived in great shape. It required a little assembly but in 15 minutes I was ready to go. The vacuum is very mobile. In addition to thje dolly handle, it has handles on the side for easy lifting. The motor assembly has a handle that makes it easy to remove the motor head for emptying. The vacuum is reasonably quiet the suction is impressive. The attachments are on par with the standard 2.5" plastic set of attachments. The hose is a flexible PVC not the wire reinforced type that would have more flexibility. That's not to say that this hose isn't flexible, it is, the wire reinforced type would be even more flexible. It's a great piece of equipment, comes with a bag to save the filter and pick up the finer dust particles. I recommend this machine highly. It's well made and a lot of equipment for the price.

Really Good Vac,

This review is from: Shop-Vac 9254510 10-Gallon 6.5-Peak HP Right Stuff Wet/Dry Vacuum (Tools & Home Improvement)
I bought this vac on the advice of other buyers who reviewed it and posted on Amazon.com, and have not been disappointed. This IS a really good vac for the money. Easy to assemble, the inner bag provided for drywall dust, etc. is a good thing to use for most vac applications. I leave one in it to keep the vac clean, but don't use for wet vacuuming. Now the surprise--- I thought this would be a good vac to pull the dog hairs out of the carpet in the bedrooms and main rooms, but the damn thing is so powerful it actually pulled my carpet off the tack nail strip in the corner of the room when tried! The carpet stuck to the nozzle and lifted! So be careful here. Pulls carpet right off the pad in the middle of the room too. I think I will leave it for car and garage use as intended, but it DOES pull the water and fluid right out of rugs also with NO problem at all. QUITE powerful, don't let the kids play with it, even attended. Enough said, I think it's a bargain, but may want an extra length of 2.5" hose to go with it. And I rarely spend the time to review things bought, so consider that as well. A good, well built powerful machine. Will prob. get one for the school shop where I work also.

We'd rate this thing zero stars if we could. All the features in the world can't make up for the fact that it doesn't [pick up] anything. ... In addition, the hose broke on the first day and it makes a lot of noise for not doing anything. It has been nothing but headaches since we opened the box - poor/incorrect instructions, assembly steps more difficult than necessary, clunky, tippable, short hose, ambiguous cord storage, no tool storage, etc. However, as a trash can, it's got decent wheels and a nice handle.

Bad Switch and Motor Design,
By Mr. Mike (Asheville, NC) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Shop-Vac 9254510 10-Gallon 6.5-Peak HP Right Stuff Wet/Dry Vacuum (Tools & Home Improvement)
I bought this shopvac - model QPL650 - especially because it could be made into a HEPA vacuum for construction cleanup. It was used outdoors and in my workshop and gave adequate suction. I used an approved HEPA filter with paper bags for cleanup of paint chips, sawdust, drywall dust, dirt, etc. and this vac worked as well as any I have used. The drum design with wheels works well and is easy to empty. The tools are the same as most other shopvacs.
HOWEVER the red pushbutton switch began to misbehave very soon after purchase and would never consistently start or stop. A cheap/bad design which I replaced with a heavy duty $5.00 toggle switch. Now after two years of ordinary use the motor has burnt out struggling with a small amount of carpet debris. It will cost $78.00 to replace. I would not recommend this powertool.

All my life I have dragged vacs around by the hose, with small caster wheels catching on the cord followed by the whole thing toppling over with nasty expletives following in short order. This is the best. Powerful suction, three stable independent wheels, two of them big enough to provide stability, and the accessories compartment and handle make it all an excellently engineered design. For general use, the 2.5 inch hose and attachments are not what you want, so you will need a 1.25 inch hose with a "posi-lok" connection and 1.25 inch accessories. The hose with the special Shop-Vac connector not available at Amazon, but the Shop-Vac web site has them.

I purchased this vacuum put it together placed it in the centerof my floor that had sawdust all over the floor and turned it on. WOW, did I get a surprise. The air from the exhaust blew sawdust everywhere.I called tech support and they said it was so powerfull that this could happen. Because of the poor design I packed it up and returned it. I'm still using my old shop vac that has the exhaust coming out of the top the way I feel it should. I would not purchase this vac for my wood shop. |
