5.0 out of 5 stars I own the similar model sold at Lowes
Relative to the previous reviewer's comments. My 12 gallon ShopVac died after 4 years of hard consumer-grade use as my woodshop dust collector. I've put a lot of sawdust through that thing and it died this April (2007). Without a receipt, I assumed that my 5-yr warranty was meaningless, but I called ShopVac Customer Service on a whim. To my surprise, they asked for...

I've owned one of these for about a year. The vacuum has worked fairly well, and you do get a long hose and decent accessories.

I've owned one of these for about a year. The vacuum has worked fairly well, and you do get a long hose and decent accessories.

These come with cheap furniture casters, and not surprisingly one broke a few months ago. Since they are mounted on the plastic "legs" that fasten to the side, you can't easily replace them with something better. The casters are not covered by the warranty, and the replacements are featured prominently on the ShopVac site. You must purchase a whole set, depending on your model they are about $3-10. The casters are odd dimensions so you can't easily find a substitute. This seems like a bit of a racket to me, and cheap build quality and unfriendly designs like this drive me nuts.

Granted, in the big picture this is just a few dollars, but if this sort of thing bothers you I'd recommend finding something better.

Also, note that filters are much cheaper here than on the ShopVac site.

I've put a lot of sawdust through that thing and it died this April (2007). Without a receipt, I assumed that my 5-yr warranty was meaningless, but I called ShopVac Customer Service on a whim. To my surprise, they asked for the model number and a date code that was stamped on the bottom of the motor. Once I provided that information, the responded with an email that my no-cost replacement motor and fan unit would be shipped Fedex ASAP. I had the unit within 5-days.

In short, I couldn't be happier with ShopVac and their excellent customer service.

1.0 out of 5 stars Stopped working on 4th use, December 16, 2006

This vaccuum stopped working on its 4th use. It was adequate as a vaccuum, although bulky and difficult to store. It is very loud as a vaccuum. As a leaf blower it is underpowered but relatively quiet.

This was a lousy value, and I will stay a long way away from the shop vac brand from now on. I advise everyone to keep on shopping if they are looking at shop vac.

5.0 out of 5 stars Working out fine for me, August 15, 2008

Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This Shop Vac is working out great. It was easy to assemble and the attachments are very handy. I like having the attachments stored on the machine itself. The hose is actually 8' long. (Unless the Amazon listing has been corrected, it's described as 7' long.) My only request from Shop Vac would be to include the universal adapter.

1.0 out of 5 stars Disappointed!, May 31, 2011
This review is from: Shop-Vac 962-12-00 12-Gallon 5-Horsepower Wet/Dry Vacuum (Tools & Home Improvement)
I purchased this shop vac assuming it would work because of the brand. My parents use a shop vac they've had for many years and it works beautifully.(different model old black and red one) We used this one 3 times and it hasn't worked since. We only used it to vacuum some drywall dust up. In my opinion this product should have been able to handle that since it wasn't a lot. The last time it stopped working was when I was vacuuming my car. I didn't vacuum anything strange just dirt. The vacuum started smelling funny and smoking before it shut it's self off. It has turned on one time since then but only stayed on for about 30 seconds. I never used this shop vac long enough for it to overheat.

Unfortunately we couldn't return it to the store because it was passed 30 days. Thankfully we bought it at a discounted price. Maybe I got a dud but it's frustrating that we had to junk it. We don't have any authorized repair places in our area and it's not worth shipping it anywhere. We bought a smaller model shop vac from a home improvement store and hopefully we will have better luck.

1.0 out of 5 stars Motor stopped after about 2 hours of use, October 3, 2007

The title says it all. Motor died after about 2 hours of use. When taking it apart to look for a fuse or breaker I noticed that it was proudly made in the USA and a couple of screws designed to hold motor to case were missing. My next shop vac will be Hecho in Mexico. Items like this are problematic when purchasing on Amazon. Cost of shipping back under warrantee wouldn't justify the hassel. I just will junk it and replace with another Brand.

1.0 out of 5 stars It's just plain SILLY, June 25, 2007
I looked at the specs, saw it had 5HP, wondered if that would be enough for the 2.5 inch hose, and guesstimated that it probably would be .....
- BUT
- 12 gallons - although a wonderful capacity -
- HOW WOULD I EVER DISPOSE OF THAT MUCH WATER?
Does it or doesn't it have a pump-out capability for a hose? Who knows?
So, I can't buy it - the thought of trying to lug the sheer weight of 12 gallons of water to heaven knows where, - well, it's too much for me to even contemplate -
