Actually I'd give it 2.5 stars. The unit has some major design flaws... First, the CEO of Shop-Vac should try doing the assembly and then have a talk with the designers. Just to get the four casters to snap into the base took 20+ minutes and a lot of pain and cursing (..."twist back and forth and apply pressure until casters snap into place"). Using vice-grip pliers - which is necessary - and a lot of force to do this - which is necessary - the plastic on and around the casters as well as the metal of the caster post got mangled and/or shredded, which means that if I got to using the vac and there was a problem then the unit was already damaged and impossible to return simply from the assembly ordeal. Second, if a company is making a 4.5hp vac then the hose should have a larger diameter because just picking up sawdust, wood-chips and tiny bits of foam clogs the hose completely and starts to overwhelm the motor. That said, it seems powerful enough. The unit size is ideal for closet or under worktable storage, for example.

I bought three of these for my college-aged children, and they use them with the vacuum bags. Very reasonable price. They all seem quite satisfied with them.
