Shopaholic seals the deal,
By
This review is from: Shopaholic Ties the Knot (Shopaholic, No 3) (Paperback)
I'm not sure where Sophie Kinsella will go with this series after Becky inevitably has a baby in the next book (Shopaholic Drives the Carpool?) but Shopaholic Ties the Knot was a quick, fun read. I've read the first two books in the series, but I think you would enjoy it even if you haven't read them. This book actually gets a little deeper than the first two, with Luke (Becky's ever-patient fiance) having some real issues with his cold mother. The main plot, of whether Becky should have her wedding in New York or London, is pretty insubstantial and it's fairly easy to figure out about halfway through which side of the ocean is going to win out. That said, I thoroughly enjoyed the journey and look forward to Kinsella's next book about Luke and Becky. Actually, I don't know if Becky is really even the Shopaholic in this book.... she seems to have cut down a little on her spending. I'm giving this one 4 stars only because the extra star would give it Bridget Jones quality, which it is not. Grab this one for an airplane ride or a day at the beach. The time will pass quickly.

In typical Becky fashion...,

Reading the Shopaholic series has got to be the most fun I've had (reading-wise!) in a long time. Sophie Kinsella has created a genius character in Becky Bloomwood and a hilarious -- yet frustrating -- storyline for her in all three books, and I just can't get enough! This time around, Becky has finally got it under control. She is happily paired with boyfriend, Luke; they are living together in fabulous New York City; Becky's job as personal shopper at Barney's couldn't be better; and things are going well with her family and friends. But when attending best friend, Suze's, wedding, Becky realizes there is something missing her life -- an engagement ring. However, Luke is one step ahead of the game -- he proposes to Becky and all is well with the world...or so it seems... Suddenly, Becky finds herself in a new dimension of bridal registries, wedding planners, engagement parties and more! Her old shopping habits rise to the surface when it comes to picking out cookware -- I mean, who doesn't need a state-of-the-art toaster? But believe it or not, there is a much worse predicament that Becky's got herself into -- she's somehow agreed to getting married in two different places. Now how is she going to get herself out of this mess? Read on to find out... Shopaholic Ties the Knot is pure fun. Becky is just as outrageous as ever, although this time, I believe, she is also pretty frustrating. Sophie Kinsella has done an excellent job with this new chapter in Becky's life and if you loved the first or second book, you won't be disappointed with the third. The ending of this novel left room for another in this series -- let's hope and pray Sophie Kinsella is listening. Becky Bloomwood is one character I'd rather not do without.

Our Favorite Shop-Till-You-Drop Girl Is Back,

This review is from: Shopaholic Ties the Knot (Shopaholic, No 3) (Paperback)
Loyal followers of the Shopaholic series have seen Becky Bloomwood through a lot of things---but now life has never been better for Becky. Not only does she have her dream job (personal shopper at Barney's) and live in a shopper's paradise (Manhattan) but she has just become engaged to long-time boyfriend Luke via a highly romantic and original proposal. Nothing could go wrong for Becky now, or could it? If Becky's mother is planning a traditional family wedding in England while Luke's mother is planning the most extravagant wedding imagineable at the fashionable Plaza in New York and both weddings are scheduled for the same day, you mighy say Becky has a problem. The girl who could never say no to a Vera Wang dress, a Prada sample sale, or new shoes from Christian Louboutin apparently can't say no to either wedding. But even Becky can't be two places at one time, or can she?Becky still has an eye for a fine piece of apparel, but it is Luke who has tremendous character growth in this installment, as he becomes less of an accessory for Becky and a multi-layered man in his own right. Old friends like Suze, Tarquin, and Tom from next door are also there as Becky's wedding day approaches with all the laughter, angst, and turmoil we've come to expect from Sophie Kinsella's brilliant series.

Shopaholic Does it Again!,

This review is from: Shopaholic Ties the Knot (Shopaholic, No 3) (Paperback)
Shopaholic Ties the Knot is the third book about Becky Bloomwood and her boyfriend Luke. Becky has moved to New York and now has the absolutely perfect job, personal shopper at Barneys! She's blissfully happy with her job and wonderful boyfriend, Luke. When he proposes, she couldn't be more thrilled. Until the battle of the mother-in-laws starts.Becky's mother wants her to get married back in London, while Luke's overbearing mother wants an all-out, no expenses spared wedding at the Plaza. Both sound good to Becky and with Luke stressing out over work, she ends up not saying no to either wedding! So now she has two weddings being planned on two continents on the same date! This novel is yet another wonderful story by Sophie Kinsella about an intriguing and fun character who has a shopping obsession! The thing I liked better about this book over the previous two is that it focused more on Becky and her relationships with her mother and Luke, and had slightly fewer shopping trips. Becky is still the same hilarious girl, always entangling herself in some kind of mess - but I felt this book delved a little deeper in to her and some of the other characters in the book. Shopaholic Ties the Knot is another great read by Kinsella, I highly recommend picking it up along with Confessions of a Shopaholic and Shopaholic Takes Manhatten. All three are light-hearted and fun, very easy to read and very difficult to put down once you start.

Becky getting married?! Luke suddenly pops the question and the ensuing trials and tribulations are hilarious! I don't want to give much away, I hate when people do that. If you liked the first two, you'll love this one... even if it does have a bit more drama than the previous ones. Also recommended: NO ONE'S EVEN BLEEDING and DELANO

A bit of a disappoinment,
By Danielle (NY, NY) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Shopaholic Ties the Knot (Shopaholic, No 3) (Paperback)
Having read the whole series in a matter of a week, I would recommend the trilogy. However, Ties the Knot was my least favorite because I expected a lot more. While Becky isn't nearly as shallow as she was in the first two books and her shopping adventures curtailed, she didn't develop as much as I would have liked. She still reasons everything away instead of owning up. By the third installment, I wanted to see character development and it just wasn't there. So, Becky's shtick of excuses, schemes and indecision, get very old and annoying in Ties the Knot. The thing that bothered me the most was the main plot. The whole concept of the two weddings was too ridiculous and boring to sustain a whole book. It also showed that Becky really hasn't learned from her past experiences and was as immature as ever. It was frustrating at times to keep reading as it went around in endless circles. The ending was ludicrous and I could spot it coming a mile away. I wish Kinsella would have finally let Becky grow-up a little, take responsibility and make a decision, instead of the constant schemes and saves that always seem to happen. This plot highlighted the fact that Becky was still very deceptive, even to her fiancee, and it turned me off to her character somewhat. Instead of the whole wedding plot at the forefront, I would have preferred Luke's character being fleshed out even more than it was. I found myself wanting to know more about him and Becky's relationship; What about Becky does he love? Why does he put up with her nonsense? Generally, more dialogue between the two! On the plus side, I love following the character through the series. I also like that nothing happens that doesn't figure in somewhere down the line. Kinsella was also consistent with keeping the supporting players, like Suze and Tarquin, involved throughout, and following-up with other character's stories such as Tom and Lucy. Overall, Ties the Knot is worth it if you read the other two. Without reading the other two, I am not so sure. Some people might find Becky amusing if they are only reading this one, simply because they aren't familiar with the other books. Otherwise, Ties the Knot's situations are overkill at this point. I do hope there will be another book in this series, but one that will fulfill the promise of Ties the Knot.

Becky really deserves what she gets!!!,

I would have given this book 3.5 if it was possible. I have read just 'Confessions of a shopaholic' before this one and i don't think i will read any more of this series, although both these books were entertaining and hard to put down, i was wondering whole time'How is she ever going to come out of this mess?' But I really had a hard time trying to understand Becky. I didn't like her. She sounded so shallow sometimes, I really felt like shaking her. And she was such a liar, she lied even when she didn't need to.
Towards the end of both the books she was able to redeem herselves by doing something very unselfish which was a good thing but still i can't forget how she kept irritating me, throughout most of the book, with her obssession with branded clothes, shoes, scarfs, and just about everything that could be bought. I had a good time reading this book but Becky was simply too irritating sometimes.

Our favorite shopaholic gets hitched!,
This review is from: Shopaholic Ties the Knot (Shopaholic, No 3) (Paperback)
The Shopaholic series is one of my favorites. Sophie Kinsella has created a hilarious and neurotic character in Rebecca Bloomwood. I couldn't wait to read Shopaholic Ties the Knot, hoping to read more shopping misadventures from Ms. Bloomwood. When Luke proposes, Becky couldn't believe her luck. After all, getting married is the perfect opportunity to go shopping and, more to the point, sign up for various wedding registries. However, things take a rapid spin toward potential disaster. Becky's mother wants the wedding to take place in England, whereas Luke's mother wants the wedding to be held in New York. Should Becky have a traditional English wedding or an upscale extravaganza in New York City's Plaza Hotel? With Becky's signature self-deprecating humor, she tries to disentangle herself from quite a dilemma. There are some fun twists in the novel. As previously mentioned, the Shopaholic books are all memorable. Even though the third installment is more focused on the wedding dilemma than on Becky's uncontrollable shopping addiction, the novel is hilarious nevertheless. I hope Ms. Kinsella writes another one. I'll read each and every Bloomwood adventure that's published!

I read it and love it,

I was lucky enough to have purchased this book when I visited my friend in London last Thanksgiving. This is probably the funniest Shopaholic book ever. It just keeps getting better! I love the other two shopaholic books but this one is just so beefy! Becky Bloom is getting married and goes through the ups and downs of wedding planning, (plus a lot of shopping on the side), as well as the pressures of in-laws, being in NYC high society (her mother-in-law), and staying true to her English roots. It's romantic, terribly funny, and just and all-around feel good novel.

Who says books can't be mindless and fun,

This review is from: Shopaholic Ties the Knot (Shopaholic, No 3) (Paperback)
If you're looking for a life-changing work of literature, Sophie Kinsella may not be the author of choice. However, if you're seeking a well written read with hints of British flare, this book will definately fulfill your cravings. If you fell in love with Becky in the first two I doubt you will need me to urge you to buy this one as well. (In fact if this describes you you're probably reading my review to find the satisfaction of reading other reviews from people who are as addicted to Sophie Kinsella's books as you are.) However if you haven't read any, I suggest starting from the beginning. The first book is the funniest in the series in my opinon and makes it difficult to resist keeping up with Becky's misadventures. The books are fantastic because Kinsella is able to latch on to many common female characteristics and integrate them into a seamless tale that's both humorous and easy to relate to. It's a fabulous book for any woman that reads Vogue religiously, lusting after the newest Prada handback or the latest Vera Wang. That doesn't mean, however, you have to be a obsessed with haute couture or shopping sprees in order to delight in a mindless afternoon with Becky. Even my college roommate, who often criticizes my spending habits and doesn't obsess about fashion or shopping, refused to be interrupted while reading about Becky. The bottom line: Kinsella's latest book is so much fun you'll eagerly pass it off to friends when you're done so you can all laugh about how much you saw yourself in Becky.
