The soundtrack is great but if you're looking to find some of the GREAT music (songs by artists) that were played in the film such as
Sun Kil Moon - Carry me Ohio The notwist - Consequence Death Cab for Cutie - Sound of Settling You will not find it on this cd.

Beautiful, but sad,

I find this soundtrack to be very sweet, but much like the movie it is sad and melancholy. A CD to listen to for it's gentle beauty but also if you need a good cry!

Non-Score Mark Kozelek Songs,
By
This review is from: Shopgirl [Original Motion Picture Score] (Audio CD)
The 3 Mark Kozelek tracks are available:
"Lily & Parrots" "Carry Me Ohio" from the album "Ghosts of the Great Highway" by Sun Kil Moon Ghosts of the Great Highway "Make Like Paper" from the album "Songs for a Blue Guitar" by The Red House Painters Songs for a Blue Guitar Mark Kozelek wrote and sings all 3 songs. He's been a member of The Red House Painters (now defunct) and Sun Kil Moon. I think at least one of the tracks above is available on a solo live recording, "Little Drummer Boy Live." sad, yet beautiful,

This is my all time favorite original score soundtrack. I call this cd a "night" cd, as I always listen to it when going to bed, or driving home late from work. The music is so beautifully passionate, and yet very sad and haunting. The songs will literally bring you to tears, depedning on what kind of mood you are in. Anyone who is a true lover of music will enjoy this cd as much as I do.

Beautiful score,

A beautiful score that pulls at your heartstrings. So well done that I believe it to be an integral part of the film. While I love the movie, there really isn't much to it. Simple story, no extraordinary twists. Barrington's score carries the film with swooping emotion and makes it feel much bigger than it is, in a very good way.
I see that many reviewers call this music sad, but I've always felt that it manages to weave in a positive and happy note. The score takes you on a little trip an leaves you feeling refreshed and good at the end. It's a great listen whether you're a fan of the movie or not.

Portrait in Motion,
This review is from: Shopgirl [Original Motion Picture Score] (Audio CD)
There is a special elegance in this movie soundtrack, with the 23 pieces fitting perfectly with the textures of emotions in this roller-coaster ride concerning the search for real love.
The beauty in the performance from the London Metropolitan Orchestra and conducter Barrington Pheloung are the subtle chage of colors when there seems to be a wonderment of optimism that love is obtainable. This is a sensational score for a wonderful movie.

4 Stars for Shopgirl,

This was another 10 dollar iTunes purchase, and it was worth every penny. I've never seen the film, and to be honest, I don't have much desire to. However, this is a fine score from a composer that assures us he will be more well known in the film music world soon.
Shopgirl is essentially divided into two parts - mellow, fairy tale type playful music involving lots of chimes and bells and sounds like a xylophone too, and then the other part, which is in more prominence and is the reason this score is so good; the melancholy, beautiful, heart breaking music that comprises of a terrific string composition and some piano that sounds very Nyman-esque at times. It's mellow, moving, and sometimes over-dramatic - the length of about 35-40 minutes is just about right. Too much of this kind of music would become overbearing, and as it stands now, it's rather lovely. cheers KZ
