I truly enjoyed this book, even if I was expecting more about sailing adventure than a criminal plot. It is easy to read, interesting, and a good read.

Douglas Danielson's 'Shore Loser' is a winner.,

This review is from: Shore Loser (Paperback)
I have been sailing and working on the ocean for 42 years, and I have made the trip that the boat 'Shore Loser' makes in this book. Doug Danielson knows his seamanship and locations. I also like the way he developes his characters, Jake, Buddy, Wanda, and Toey. I highly recommend this book if you like fast-paced suspense and a very enjoyable story.

A Series in the Making,
By
This review is from: Shore Loser (Paperback)
In fairness to the reader of this review, I have know Douglas "Doug" Danielson since high school. Many years ago, he presented an early draft of Shore Loser to me for my review, I could barely get through the first two chapters ... that must have been 10 years ago ... well, times have changed!
Shore Loser is a solid story, well told. When I read the published edition I entered the world of Jake Mortensen and his friends with caution. I was soon impressed, however, with the natural (as if you are there) description of their characters and quickly became intrigued with the drama that began to unfold, not like a high powered race-car in the Indianapolis 500 (like so many formula novels) but like a finely tuned 12-meter sailboat sailing upwind ... carefully, strategically, tacking back and forth as it moves toward its mark By the end of the story Jake and his buddies (especially Toey) were my friends and I was sad to see them leave. I look forward to their return.

Believable salty story with vivid characters,

I am sixty-five year's old, dyslexic and never read for pleasure. On vacation one evening in a china filled reading room, I opened Shore Loser for a quick perusal. To my great surprise I read until I fell asleep. First thing the next morning I jumped back into the story and did not put it down until I finished. This was a first cover to cover novel read for me and I was disappointed when I ran out of pages. The good news is the author Doug Danielson has a follow-on novel titled Wet Dreams that will published later this summer. I am looking forward to Jake's future endeavors.

Turning the Crusing Under Sail Lifestyle Into an Exciting Novel!!!!,
This review is from: Shore Loser (Paperback)
This book made my memories of cruising under sail vividly "flashback." Mr. Danielson's descriptions and explanations rekindled all of my wonderful memories of cruising the Mexican Pacific coast and the Sea of Cortex. Both the places and people became very real when seen through my 6 years of cruising the same Mexican water and anchorages as "Shore Losers" stories. Both the hardships and soaring heights of delight I experienced first hand were faced and enjoyed by "Jake" the delivery skipper. Mr. Danielson's own web page http://www.doug-danielson.com/ explains the solid basis of his knowledge of this wonderful lifestyle.
Mr. Danielson certainly "knows his Stuff" and tells it like it really is while threading a suspenseful story of adventure, conflicts, passion and romance. I can't wait for Mr. Danielson's next book. A hint of my own cruising life is at www.lencole.com Shore Loser

Loved the book! A great adventure that even someone with limited boat experience can follow (and even learn a little!). The story moved and kept me held to the end. I really enjoyed the characters and look forward to their next adventure...

Shore entertaining!,

This review is from: Shore Loser (Paperback)
Nicely drawn characters with a real-life feel. Mr. Danielson writes with authority and sensitivity about the places, people and actions he brings to the reader. Enjoyable adventure with believable events and obvious depth of expertise in boats, locales and the kinds of characters found in the nautical crowd. Looking forward to a sequel!

A well done sailing adventure,
This review is from: Shore Loser (Paperback)
A well written sailing story with lots of suspense. The author is no doubt well versed in marine technology and overall boat operation in Mexican waters. I have sailed in the same areas and his detail was very consistent with my experience. I have sailed the exact same vessel in the Virgin Islands so am very experienced in its operation and sailing characteristics.

Written from the true heart of an Old Salt...,
By Jake's alter ego "David" (Ventura, CA USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Shore Loser (Paperback)
This author writes from a place that most writers barely scratch the surface on. He writes what he knows. High paced action and high-seas adventure. His characters are believable, his plot development uncontrived; this book will have you waiting for the next adventure when Jake takes the helm.

The author really knows his subject: boating, Baja California and the beach. Fast paced, tersely written; hard to put down.
