5.0 out of 5 stars Beautiful CD
Tina Malia is one of those musicians that I greatly admire. She is a classically trained vocalist, pianist and guitarist and is blessed with an incredibly beautiful voice. She also wrote and produced the entire CD.

She sings of mystical things, maidens fair, and ships at sea with a beauty and passion I haven't heard since the early 90s when Sarah McLachlan first caught...

3.0 out of 5 stars Commonplace blarney
The lyrics seem trite or contrived. The melodies seem common. The upper register of Ms. Malin's singing voice is wispy. I could not find one track of interest.

5.0 out of 5 stars Beautiful CD, October 20, 2002

She sings of mystical things, maidens fair, and ships at sea with a beauty and passion I haven't heard since the early 90s when Sarah McLachlan first caught my attention. Tina's voice is almost as gorgeous as Sarah's (I dare say).

This is the epitome of the beautiful album. The songs are intricately woven and excellently performed. If you are looking for a CD to play to relax to, dine to or get romantic to, this is it.

5.0 out of 5 stars I'd give it more stars if I could, February 21, 2005

Buy it. It's magical and enchanting and well constructed at the same time. Nuff said.

I don't like fluff, and I don't like bad singers. I'm a trained musician with little tolerance for any of the aforementioned. And this is none of them. Sure, as a previous reviewer said, her voice is "wispy" in the higher register. Call it wispy and bad singing, or realize she full well knows how to sing "properly", but chose instead to sing from the heart.

A truly stellar album.

5.0 out of 5 stars A musical gem, June 30, 2002

Tina Malia's CD, 'Shores of Avalon' has been in constant rotation on my stereo and in my car since I got it a few weeks ago. Every time I hear it, I discover something new to appreciate.
Malia's style is very particular to her--it truly can't be pigeonholed. But to come close to describing the Celtic/Indian/folksy sound would be to say she's something akin to Loreena McKennitt. The two women use wonderful, rich imagery that sounds like something Tennyson might have penned. Malia is also a little like Sarah McLachlan... both comparisons are not undeserved. We've got to get this little-known artist out there!
If you like 'Shores of Avalon', I HIGHLY reccommend investing in Loreena McKennitt's 'The Mask and Mirror' and 'The Book of Secrets'.

I listened to Tina Malia at an audio enabled bookstore and wow, she is superb. Her voice is rich, her compositions are full, not with electronic nuances but with complete instrumentals. Her songs go deep, touching the heart and soul. A deep peacefulness settles inside from listening to this magical album, I'm looking forward to much more from Tina.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Stunning Debut, February 26, 2002

What a surprise! What a voice! Who is Tina Malia?
I was amazed to hear this new voice. So clear and soulful, with pristine neo-folk arrangements, crystal clear production, and acoustic guitar rolling gently across the rivers of percussion, violin, and cello. Each song is a journey into the heart of the singer, and listening to her I felt my own heart deeply touched.
I've been listening to this CD constantly, and it will probably stay on my favorites list forever!

5.0 out of 5 stars A Journey, December 31, 2002
This review is from: Shores of Avalon (Audio CD)
From the first time I listened to this CD, it quickly became my most used and most favorite CD. Every time this CD is played, it takes me through a journey. Each song has a beutiful melody and takes you into a journey, a journey within yourself and into the world of your unlimited horizon-your mind, your imagination which takes you to distant places. The music also grows on you as well, you never get bored with her music, the more you lisen, the more it becomes a sensation. For real music, for a Journey and a CD that's worth so much, take it from me, this is a great deal considering the beuty of the music)
