5.0 out of 5 stars Book combining several themes!, September 17, 2011
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Short Blade (Mass Market Paperback)
A book touching several themes including the clashing of, and the upholding of classes, sex and power, the theme of feminism and general philosophy of life and death. Moreover, a book more than just a crime book. Personal criticism would be the female characters being of such higher morale standard than the males despite their likeness of riches, power and some of their slight arrogance towards the lower classes fighting against tyranny, one male almost becoming divine once turning from male to a female. Some detailed descriptions typical of crime-books may very well have been skipped altogether. The description of how the bullets from a gun is flying and missing one of the lead characters may be rather just annoying reading. The book depicts every character so well including their personal interests and flaws, these characters interaction combined with all the themes as described earlier.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Scifi!, October 13, 2006
This review is from: Short Blade (Mass Market Paperback)
I don't want to give too much away, but let me just say that this book rocks! It kept my interest all the way to the end. The revolution was so well described it was almost like watching it on the bigscreen. The author does a fantastic job of putting the reader right there in the middle of the action as an invisible, silent observer.

The creativity in the various struggles were simultaneously unique and familiar. I admire the ability for an author to write in this fashion; which is to create a completely original work that the reader can relate to as well. Fantastic.

Some may find the book's sexual themes to be downright silly early on, but I encourage readers to stick with it as the author shines through bringing such things as pornographic based politcal campaigns and trans gender possession into relevance of the overall struggle. I loved Short Blade! Poverty, suicide, false religions, drugs, and body leasing are all tools wielded by the upper class to eradicate the middle and lower classes of society. A great struggle unfolds with some notions that are so twisted and bizarre, while maintaining relevance to the story and in many cases life as we know it today.
Highly recommended even if you're not into sci-fi and like a well told story period.
