Book Description

Four free short stories from bestselling author Stephen Leather, plus opening chapters of six of his bestselling thrillers.

The short stories are: Breaking In (where a burglar gets more than he bargained for when he breaks into a London house), Strangers On A Train (where a mugging on a train doesn't go to plan), Inspector Zhang and the Hotel Guest (where the Singaporean detective solves a mystery) and Cat's Eyes (the backstory of a Bangkok go-go dancer).

There are also tasters of six of his bestselling novels, including The Chinaman, The Vets and The Birthday Girl.

Stephen Leather is one of the UK's most successful thriller writers. He was a journalist for more than ten years on newspapers such as The Times, the Daily Mail and the South China Morning Post in Hong Kong. Before that, he was employed as a biochemist for ICI, shovelled limestone in a quarry, worked as a baker, a petrol pump attendant, a barman, and worked for the Inland Revenue. He began writing full time in 1992. His bestsellers have been translated into more than ten languages. He has also written for television shows such as London's Burning, The Knock and the BBC's Murder in Mind series. Two of his books, The Stretch and The Bombmaker, were made into movies.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great assortment May 14, 2013
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
The short stories are compelling. The characters believably evil, well, not all of them, of course...but all the shorts sport a satisfying end.

5.0 out of 5 stars FREE and a great read!!!! June 22, 2014
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
If it wasn't for my Kindle I don't think I would have ever "discovered" Stephen Leather. Amazon sent an email coupon with a selection of e-books it could be redeemed against. I grabbed a Stephen Leather novel, "Nightfall" the first Jack Nightingale book in a series of 5. Completely out of my usual genre. Hooked hard by the end of the first chapter. Been grabbing anything else he's written since then and haven't been disappointed yet.

3.0 out of 5 stars Great when free.....
I loved the first two stories, "Break in" and "Strangers on a train," yet was very glad the rest were included free since they were nothing but "previews" chapters of the books. Read more

2.0 out of 5 stars Don't bother
I did not care for this collection of short stories. The stories were boring and I didn't even read them all because they did not capture my interest at all.

4.0 out of 5 stars Get rid of the fillers & I'd given it 5 starts - Pretty good for short...
Not bad for short stories, in fact pretty good. All the stories are different. The only reason I gave it 4 stars instead of 5 is because of the fillers between the stories... Read more
