2.0 out of 5 stars Classics, but not a whole CD
Well considering I was born around the time these songs were produced I dont have much to say about remembering these classics. I have to judge the album when I heard it which was in 2004. I wouldn't buy the album unless I remembered these songs from back in the day. Im not hating on it but it's just sounds a little old for my style. The CD has two songs which I would put...

TAKE THIS ALBUM FOR WHAT IT IS. IT IS THE PIMPS EARLY BOOTLEG, BAY AREA UNDERGROUND, RAP. OLD BEATS WITH BETTER THAN AVERAGE RHYMES. BUT IF YOU LOVE TOO $HORT, YOU NEED TO OWN IT...

5.0 out of 5 stars ONCE YOU FIND THIS, BUY IT ON SIGHT!, January 7, 2004
This review is from: Too Short Greatest Hits Vol. 1 The Player Years, 1983-1988 (Audio CD)
THIS RARE DOUBLE DISC CONTAINS THE ENTIRE CONTENTS OF TOO SHORT'S FIRST 3 TAPES, WHICH WERE ALL RECORDED LOCALLY BACK IN 1985. THOSE TAPES ARE VERY RARE AND EVEN THIS CD THAT HAS ALL THE SONGS FROM THOSE 3 TAPES ARE RARE. TO THIS DAY, SONGS LIKE ''DON'T STOP RAPPIN'', INVASION OF THE FLAT BOOTY B***HES'', ''GIRL'', ''WILD WILD WEST'', AND ''SHORT RAP'' ARE ALL GREAT SONGS TO PARTY TO. KEEP IN MIND THAT THE WEST COAST HAD NOT YET ESTABLISHED ITS OWN SOUND. SO, IN OTHER WORDS, THESE SONGS PRE-DATE GANGSTA RAP, N.W.A., ICE-T, EAZY-E, AND ALL THAT STUFF. THESE ARE ACTUALLY SOME OF THE BEST TOO SHORT SONGS THAT'VE EVER BEEN RECORDED. YOUR TOO SHORT COLLECTION IS NEVER COMPLETE WITHOUT THIS CD. YOU MIGHT HAVE TO ORDER ONE OFF OF THIS WEBSITE BEING THAT THIS 2-DISC IS HARD TO FIND.

This cd makes up his first three tapes. There is a great energy felt on these songs and I would highly suggest that if you havn't bought this yet try and get it. It has Too $hort's first three tapes on here which in my mind are some of his best. I was thinking today that rap music can be maybe be related to cartoons. The newer cartoons today are likely to have better production and graphics, yet something is missing. The energy is gone and nothing feels as fresh or exciting, the old cartoons have something many of the new ones do not. Something I cant put my finger on, but I feel that rap is similar. While the music production has become incresingly complex and more scietific and computer aided, something is missing. This album has tracks with songs that often follow no clear format that many songs today strictly follow which feels nice. If your a too short fan im sure you already have these, but if havnt check it out.

Players and dont ever stop. Maybe female funk? I dont want to diss Short but dont buy this CD.

I was just listening to the 30: sample of short side, and b**wjob betty, and they both sound EXACTLY the same. Does anyone know if the b**wjob betty on the Greatest Hits is the same one as on his Get In Where You Fit In album???
