Book Description

July 22, 2005
It is 1946. The great war is over. It is a time of peace. Return to a simpler time, a happy time of innocence and discovery. See the world through the eyes of young precocious Davey Monroe, whose journey through child-hood will make you laugh until you cry, and then cry remembering a world that is all but lost in our memories. "The Short Happy life of Davey Monroe is simply delightful. Not only does Mr. Evans perfectly capture youth in all its glory; but the inno-cence of that time, so pure and shining it had me crying as I laughed recalling my own childhood. Davey Monroe is an excellent read in every respect; and it should be mandatory reading for all who have for-gotten the pure joy of being a kid, no matter how old you are in years." Lisa Adams Author of Bound Justice "The Short, Happy Life of Davey Monroe made me smile from the first sentence. Evans continues to share his lighthearted humor in this de-lightful romp through the reminiscences of childhood-not just Davey's childhood, but yours, mine, all of ours. You can't help but find yourself nodding and saying, 'I remember that,' for we have all been Davey at some point. I was completely charmed by it and eagerly recommend it." Carrie Chesney Author of Christopher "Richard L. Evans is a master storyteller, one who transports the reader to a time of innocent triumphs and unvarnished truths, told with the clarity that can only be experienced through the eyes of a child." M. T. Acquaire Authors of Marty Boggs and the Curse of Kutkara's Tomb

5.0 out of 5 stars A Short Happy Review, May 9, 2009
This review is from: The Short Happy Life of Davey Monroe (Hardcover)
The Short Happy Life of Davey Monroe is set up like a series of charming short stories depicting scenes from a boy's childhood. Each one had some element that had me snickering at the innocent little point of view or flat out laughing at the perceived point of view of his parents, Aunt Ruth, Old Man Barkley, and other adult characters in the town of Green Valley. The book provided a sense of peace and calm and, as the title suggests, happiness.

For folks wanting to recapture a feeling of an easier time, for folks who love Ralphie in A Christmas Story, for folks who enjoyed Tom Sawyer, for folks who like spending a long afternoon chuckling at a child's antics, The Short Happy Life of Davey Monroe is the ideal set of 33 adventures.

Davey Monroe takes the reader to a time filled with uncertainty and the ever turning wheel of change, all while being told through the innocent eyes of a child. This story will have you cheering along with Davey as he triumphs, eyes filling with tears as the lessons in life that are presented often leave scars and laughing out loud the next minute at Davey's outrageousness! A must buy for any collection, one that you will cherish not only the first time you read it, but for years to come.
