This review is from: A Short History of Christian Doctrine (Paperback)
This is nice "short" summary of Christian doctrine/dogma as far as it goes, but it doesn't go far enough. It basically stops at the Reformation, although there is some advance here but strictly in German perspective of author and his Lutheran view. Was hoping for more interaction not only with Rome, but Geneva and Reformed views as well as others. This is tendency of some Lutheran theologians, especially of the Continental type like Lohse, who interact primarily with critics and Rome to the exclusion of Reformed, Arminian, Pentecostal, Evangelical, etc.

For example, was really interested in his fine section on "Sin and Grace" which is well done up to 16th Century, but then he stops. The subtitle: "From the First Century to the Present" is misleading and inadequate in this reviewer's view in that it does stop with 16th. There is chapters on Recent Dogma within Catholicism and Prostestantism and Unity of the Church which are fine and well done as far as they go, but they don't go far enough in my humble estimation.

The Chronological Tables are fine as far as they go, but e.g. the Sin and Grace one stops at 529AD.

This review is from: A Short History of Christian Doctrine (Paperback)
Lots of info in here, actually more than I really want to know. It is a translation from German so it is not always very easy to read. The author is fond of long complex sentences with lots of commas so I frequently have to reread and break sentences apart.
