Contents: Heartwarming, friendship stories

Short story #1 - Out Of The Gloom
As kids, they were afraid of Jenny Wren. She’d shout and wave a stick if they played near her house, so, because they were frightened, they played there all the more to show they weren’t. - Chloe was perhaps still a little scared of Jenny Wren. She wanted to dispel those childhood dreads, because despite so many easier options, she had intentionally, foolishly, ended up with Jenny Wren

Short story #2 - Stronger Than Pride.
English Alexander, Spanish Juanita, and Megan; what a tangled web of life and friendship. What would his son say, what had that bitch, Juanita, already said? Had he the right to intrude on Megan’s young life? - Set in Spain, this short story explores the improbable relationship between two strangers who grow inexplicably together.

Short story #3 - Colour Her Grey
There was a knock on the door and when she opened it, one of the bimbos stood there. It was the tall one, the one who ought to be locked away, the one who simpered like something out of women’s fiction... There was no way that Gina was going to get involved with the neighbours… and yet…

Short story #4 - Everything is in Hand
“We’re not visiting. The car stalled at the junction. Her waters have broken.”
Francine stared in horror as Jill groped her way to the new settee. The lounge had been recently decorated in pastel orange with matching curtains; the settee, white, soft leather, barely two months old, showed every stain. - Francine thinks she’s been lumbered with all the problems in the world, until she hears the inspirational stories from the old lady up the street.

Short story #5 .- Broken Promises
An iron bed in the corner of the upstairs room, food on the table, water drawn from a tap instead of hauled from the well, a window looking towards the sierra. What more could she want. - This short love story is a tale of expectation, disappointment and final redemption.

Short story #6 - People There Catch Monkeys
There was a faint smell of rubber from the tyres and Jenny grimaced. It was spitting rain still and drops that clung to the windscreen made starlets in the glare from the houselights. - Jenny ought to have explained about family life, yet the time never seemed to be right. When would it be right? How much more could she take?

Short story #7 - Shelley’s Shock
That bitch was stealing her man; stealing him from under her nose! How dare she? Yet, how could Shelley compete? She wasn’t glamorous, didn’t do excitement, and hadn’t an ounce of grandeur in her.

Short story #8 - Child's Play
The mist-softened braes of Balquhidder ran to gold in the early September sun. He looked part of the land. Emily was glad of him for it, there was no denying it, but enough was enough. - Sometimes a woman has to use guile to get a man to do what’s right….

Short story #9 - Great Aunt Elvira’s Last Laugh
I thought it was ugly. The thing is it was huge. I’m no judge but I know what I like and this thing was grotesque. - When Great Aunt Elvira died, her bequest to her favourite, Maria, was a huge vase that turned out to be worthless. Maria’s less-than-caring cousin had a beautiful piece of furniture. Life hardly seemed inspirational.

Short story #10 - Red Rose for a Lady
The florist was nice. Not stunning, not a contender for glamorous grandmother, bu

Interesting stories always with a twist at the end. Enjoyed the variety of stories and the draw to continue reading from story to story. Hopefully, the author will continue the series, especially as this was subtitled book 1.
