Charley is the finance whiz; he's got dreams of creating a system that can beat the market. Mordecai's the charismatic social engineer with a questionable past, while the narrator is a reclusive programming savant. Together they have a unique, highly-specialized set of skills. 3.0 out of 5 stars Could have been so much more... August 20, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition
When I started this read I thought I would hate it. There was much too much technical description that I could not follow...I became bored. Also, the character development was really lacking and I couldn't connect. But half way through the book it picked up and became pretty exciting, although it would have been more so if I had felt a connection with the characters. The writer has talent and pulled me in, but this book could have been so much more.

3.0 out of 5 stars Nerdiness For The Win August 19, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition
Review appears on my Twitter, Facebook, Goodreads and my Blog. [...]

I can't properly review this because I feel I don't read enough in this genre. I really wanted to, but I can't. It's a very fast paced read and Jason did one hell of a job with the narrator POV you feel like your actually there.

These characters reminded me so much of my nerdy brother. It was an exciting read wondering what the hek was going to happen. But, I felt that with all the nerdiness going on I couldn't really follow the read like I wanted too. Math was never a fun subject for me ;)

If your looking for a fun fast paced read then I suggest you read Short Sell, Long Con. If I could get rich like that lord have mercy lol.

I will read more by Jason C.C I like his writing style.

4.0 out of 5 stars Get While The Getting Is Good August 11, 2012
By Pat O.
Format:Kindle Edition
3.75 -- Get while the getting is good!

I received this free in exchange for an honest review. The summary is accurate and there is no need to rehash it to describe the 3 brainiacs combining their brainpower to pull off the white collar crime of the century.

For me the writing style was unexpected though fairly good and the story woven was tight enough to draw you in quick enough to care if our protagonists lets call them Steve, Larry & Charley would succeed or not. I felt I was watching as opposed to reading which was an excellent method for this story as it encouraged comfort, relaxation and familiarity while it set a brisk pace. However my personal biases kept me from enjoying this short novella as much as I could have. One being the first person POV; another being the proverbial immorality tale attempting to test my morals as I was put in the position of cheering for the proverbial bad guys and finally the constant name-checking/dropping making it topical and relevant for the moment but even a year from now could be distracting as representative of its time.

Again while I personally didn't particularly appreciate the story itself, I thought it was a worthwhile read and it is short enough to be read during one sitting. The standard and obvious conclusions are flipped in favor of the unexpected (i.e. Harvard graduates as janitors) providing enough of a paradigm shift to pique interest. The pace is fast enough so that you're drawn into the first part of the story which basically lays out the story and provides a primer of the basics of insider trading. Act two is clearly all about expansion and profit while the scheme spreads like wildfire and underscores the desire for more. Act three, the denoument, is riddled with the bitter taste of betrayal, deceit and tension to spare as reality comes a knockin' letting you know everything isn't necessarily a foregone conclusion.
