This review is from: Short Stories of Vietnam (Paperback)
I read Short Stories of Vietnam and used it in a literature class that I taught back in the early 80s.
The students and I especially liked the novella(?) in it -- "Wiley Blooms." It's both very detailed and atmospheric. Almost everyone in the class (including me) thought it was the kind of story that easily could be turned into a film because it is so visual.
I highly recommend this story in particular and the entire book generally. Read and enjoy!

This book creates vivid images of the many settings. The characters are regular people that you would know from home but in a different place. My favorite short story is called "Ferguson and the Old Mama-san From Song Mao." It's a great example of the confusing relationships that can occur in desperate times. In a way it's a funny story and has a great ending but is also makes you wonder what you would do if you were in Ferguson or Mama-san's place.
