3.0 out of 5 stars Short & Sweet But Not For Everyone
While looking for a few recipes to try, I noticed that most recipes did not require ingredients that would be hard to locate or the cost of the recipe not worth the results. I did find it interesting to note the number of recipes that required alcohol. Not a large amount, but still a far number, especially if you plan on making any of these for children.

I found that...

4.0 out of 5 stars Delicious, fast & easy....love it!, October 5, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: Short & Sweet (Hardcover)
I was given this book as a gift. I particularly loved some of the cookie recipes --theytaste great and are so easy (and I have cookbooks in the thousands!) - great pudding cake and many of the fruit desserts are really wonderful. I've given two of these books to friends. Great for our busy life style --and even I (retired) need this quick!

5.0 out of 5 stars Everyone who loves dessert should buy this book!, June 3, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: Short & Sweet (Hardcover)
If you love serving and eating wonderful desserts but don't have the time to toil over making something very time-consuming, this book is for you. Every one of the recipes can be made in 30 minutes or less, and lots of them look and taste as though you've spent hours in the kitchen. I made the almost-flourless chocolate cake pictured on the cover for a fancy dinner party recently, and every person at the table asked for the recipe. It was elegant-looking and downright decadently divine! I highly recommend this book.

5.0 out of 5 stars Short and Sweet Is Only the Beginning, April 21, 2000

Melanie Barnard is a sensible cook with a twinkle in her eye--or that's how it appears from this book. The recipes are practical and straightforward, easy to make and few require hard-to-find ingredients. But at the same time they are innovative and appealing, obviously written by someone who understands food and what pleases dessert lovers. Try this book. There are plenty of recipes for the sophisticated dessert lover as well as someone who likes things a little more down to earth.

This review is from: Short & Sweet (Hardcover)
This book covers desserts for all tastes. It is wonderful for the experienced cook or the novice. The recipes are failproof, tasty and easy to assemble, however the finished products are very impressive in presentation. The book offers selections from rich chocolate, to light fruit, to exotic gourmet desserts.

4.0 out of 5 stars Quick and Simple, January 27, 2001
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Short & Sweet (Hardcover)
A large number of recipes are presented in this book; you will find almost anything you are looking for, from cakes to custards to pies. I must say, however, that this is a family cook book. The simplicity of the desserts make them suitable for the kids, a family gathering, etc, rather than a formal event where you would like to prepare something extravagant. The recipes do call for alcohol and not many of them turn out as you would expect even if you follow the recipe to the letter. Some baking timings and temperature are inaccurate as well, so you have to use your own experience and judgement in that matter. A nicely done book over all with an introduction for every recipe. Few photos, though, if you are the type who likes to see the finished product before attempting your hand at it.
