There is no "shortcut" to learning Chinese.,

This book comes close, but no cigar. Personally, I believe there can be no "shortcut" to learning Chinese. However, this tome does a decent job at doing so. It uses pinyin, a Romanized version to chinese to effect pronounciation. However, an accompanying audio tape or CD would have been nice.A good companion to this book is the Oxford Chinese Dictionary. ISBN: 0195911512.
