I began reading this book from the perspective of a small business owner. Since the subtitle has the words 'entrepreneurial habits' I made a general assumption. While I believed that it was written for business owners and business creators I soon realized this book was not intended solely for entrepreneurs...it's completely appropriate for anyone who wants to live a prosperous life.

The author shares his idea of the Prosperity Cycle. He explains that just making a simple start can help you become motivated and set you on the path to reach your goals. He also includes a variety of exercises that assist the reader with finding his or her passion as well as figuring out what propserity means to each of us. As you can imagine every one has a different opinion about what prosperity means. Some may define prosperity as being financially secure. That's certainly one of the first thoughts that comes to mind for me. But the author explains that you have to look at the cost of being financially secure. If you want a fat wallet and an over flowing bank account you will likely have to give up something very important in order to get those things. Think about it...what would you be willing to give up to have the amount of money you desire? Some may think, "I'll gladly work longer hours and take on more responsibility at my job if it means more money for my family." But you have to realize that in return you will have less family time. Less time relaxing. Less time enjoying your hobbies..your life. The author explains this mentality by sharing his own life experiences.

Of all the shortcuts explained in this book my favorite is the explaination for the need to develop your personal vision and the creative tension exercise. This is the part that I feel can be useful for anyone!

This is a concise and straight forward book about success that is easy to read and makes ultimate sense. It pinpoints some very key issues, including the fact that the definition of success can be very different from one person to the next, and then uses personal and professional examples to demonstrate what is necesary to achieve that success. It is written by a person who has achieved much success and that makes it even more credible. It is targeted to people early in their careers and does just what the title says, it provides great shortcuts and real learning experiences that can give you an early career "edge". It would have made some of my early career decisions a lot easier to make. I will make sure that all of my children get a copy.

Can there be a shortcut to prosperity? Are there tried and true methods that will assist people in their quest for success in careers and personal life. After reading Shortcut to prosperity, I decided that the answer is yes. There can be shortcuts to success. However, I had to be cautious. A shortcut does not necessarily mean in terms of time, it can mean helpful tips and methods.

Mark Hopkins book goes over several strategies to assist in developing the correct habits that will lead to gaining a successful life. The book is 185 pages, easy to understand, and filled with real life examples from the Hopkins' personal journey and others. His ten shortcuts range from finding a mentor to learning from the best to genuinely caring about people to finding the right partnership. Each shortcut chapter is followed by an overview and take-a-ways.

Reading through the book the first time around, I really soaked in the information and reflected upon what things I currently am doing well and what other things I could improve upon or start. Everything in the book I feel is common sense, but like most things in life, not everyone follows common sense. These tips will help reiterate lessons, that deep down you know and feel, and will provide guidance for following up. I will read through this book a second time around, to read and take action on the take-a-aways.

I know quite certainly that I myself have no special talent; curiosity, obsession and dogged endurance, combined with self-criticism have brought me to my ideas - Albert Einstein.

Hopkins uses this quote to finish off his last chapter in the book and it is a good example on how success is not always about good luck, intelligence, or talent, it really is about effort, passion, planning and hardwork.

I recommend this book for individuals who wish to gain some insight on habits that can be instill to gain success.
