More About the Author

Donna has been sewing since the age of four and quilting since 1975. It has carried her happily through her earlier years as an Army wife and the many years and moves since. Having taught nationally and internationally, she is the author of many previous quilt titles with Martingale, Inc. teaching precision rotary cutting and machine piecing: Small Talk, Shortcuts (imperial and metric versions, and four foreign language translations), A Perfect Match, Shortcuts to the Top, Stripples, Stripples Strikes Again!, Scrappy Duos, and the designer of the Bias Stripper™ ruler. Portable Patchwork: Who Says You Can't take it With You!, about integrating hand and machine piecing, was published by Kansas City Star books in 2008. She earned her National Quilting Association certification for basic quilt making (NQACT) in 1988.

Her newest book to be released in spring 2011 by Martingale, Inc., titled "Flip Your Way to Great Quilts: Taking Folded Corners to New Heights", takes the idea of folded corners and adapts it to lots of fun new uses. Most quilters are familiar with the basic concept of folded corners where a smaller square is sewn onto the corner of a larger square or rectangle and then folded over to form a triangle on the corner. Applying this idea to squares, rectangles and triangles, Flip Your Way to Great Quilts, teaches quilters how to make all kinds of new striped shapes and fun quilt blocks from folded layers.

Donna, currently living in Kansas with her husband, provides staff assistance to three cats and a dog. All her quilts are lovingly pre-furred!

4.0 out of 5 stars shortcuts that really work!, October 18, 2005
I bought this book when a fabric store in MD near me was closing; not my first choice at the time. Once I found myself experimenting with more challenging blocks, I finally opened it; within minutes it had the solutions to the angles and slices I had repeatedly made mistakes on. And I wondered why I hadn't read it sooner.
