This review is from: The Shoshone-Bannocks: Culture and Commerce at Fort Hall, 1870-1940 (Hardcover)
Heaton's study of the Shoshone-Bannock tribes on the Fort Hall Reservation in Idaho is an important work that shows an Indian community as it makes the transition into the modern American economic system. He focuses on internal divisions on the reservation that revolve around economic issues, place of on-reservation residence, and differences in levels of acculturation. This makes the study a welcome antidote to the many works that concentrate on the travails of Indian-white relations or on romantic depictions of Native Americans.
