criticism or patriotic propaganda? still great music!, June 10, 2000
This review is from: Shostakovich: Symphony No. 7 "Leningrad" (Audio CD)
i couldn't stop smiling while listing to this masterful composition. this is a bright, crisp recording of a spirited, somewhat ambiguous intent.. and at a bargian price.
when i commented to a russian co-worker that i found parts of it very ironic, he replied that things were so bad at the time how could it be anything else?
how does naxos turn out so many brilliant recordings at such an absurd price? as usual, the liner notes are well done and quite helpful.

Le générique de Daniel Mermet à Saint-Petersbourg en 1994, October 26, 2001
This review is from: Shostakovich: Symphony No. 7 "Leningrad" (Audio CD)
Des pas qui crissent dans la neige et Daniel Mermet me fait découvrir, sur France Inter, dans "Là-bas... si j'y suis", ce chef-d'oeuvre de Shostakovich :
"La #7, dite "Leningrad"...
