More About the Author

Maggie Bishop is the author of a mystery series, Appalachian Adventure Mysteries, and two romance novels set in the Mountains of North Carolina in the Boone area. "I started with romance and have turned to murder."

In "Perfect for Framing," greed and a lust for power led to murder in a clash of personal versus public needs. "Murder at Blue Falls" has Jemma who leads trail rides on her parents' guest ranch as a suspect in the murder of neighborhood dogs and well as a man. "Emeralds in the Snow" involves skiing at Sugar Mountain, an emerald mine, and a cold case murder. Award winning "Appalachian Paradise" takes place on a five-day backpacking trip in the spring amongst the bears, boars and girl scouts.
Maggie's fun book is now available. "Meow Means Me! Now!" is a rhyming feline allegory with poetry and photos. This gift book is a departure from her novels but sprang from her love of cats. Think Dr. Suess meets Marley & Me.

Maggie Bishop hikes, skis, climbs, swims, explores and writes in the mountains of North Carolina where she settled in 1993 with her husband and cat. Every time they travel, they seek out other mountains but none are as exciting as the ancient Appalachians. When asked, "What do you do?" her answer is, "Entertain with word pictures." Through her books, readers escape to the mountains.

She was chosen as one of "100 Incredible East Carolina University Women" for literature and leadership. She's an Air Force brat who put herself through ECU and received a MBA degree, a former manufacturing executive, founder and past president of High Country Writers, past Secretary of Central Pennsylvania Romance Writers, and is a member of Romance Writers of America and Sisters in Crime. Maggie's the current Treasurer of High Country Writers in Boone, NC.

In Bishop's third novel featuring multi-tasking, CSI wannabe, Jemma Chase, and Detective Tucker, she excels in writing suspect characters that are complex.

When a local journalist is murdered during the photography club meeting at Jemma's aunt and uncle's Dude Ranch, she does her best to restrain her detecting instincts so she won't jeopardize Tucker's career. In the meantime, Tucker threatens their relationship by getting involved with an old flame. Jemma grows in character in this book and as always, Bishop puts the reader right in the mountains watching for clues. The suspense held up throughout the story as I tried to figure out who had done it, and, finally I received a surprised ending to satisfy!

"One Shot Too Many" is the fifth in the series of mystery and romance novels. Jenna Chase is a great detective (maybe) but her experience and adventure keep growing. This is one time I couldn't guess the culprit. The book keeps moving with a little romance added for spice.

CSI wannabe Jemma Chase is back for another thrilling adventure in the latest addition to the Appalachian Adventure Mystery series. Jemma's hosting a meeting of the local photography club when newspaper photographer Scott Barker convulses and dies. Jemma calls her boyfriend, Detective Tucker with the Watauga County Sheriff's Department, to the scene. Knowing Jemma's propensity to engage in amateur sleuthing, Tucker warns her to quell any desire to help investigate. Jemma's life is pretty busy as trail-leader, photographer and carpenter for her parents' dude ranch, yet she keeps her ears open for any information she can pass on to Tucker. Once poisoning is confirmed, Tucker and his partner begin to focus on the members of the photography group and it seems everyone has a secret that could possibly lead to murder if revealed. When a past love steps back into Tucker's life, he tries not to let this distract him from his case or his feelings for Jemma.

Maggie Bishop excels at pulling her reader into the moment with vivid, colorful descriptions of locale and fauna. Jemma Chase is an appealing character, a strong young woman who matures more with each book. Her life as trail-leader for the dude ranch is an intriguing concept and Bishop's description of daily activities at the ranch is interesting and fun. With great skill, Bishop delivers subtle clues as to the murderer, providing her readers with a challenging mystery.
