5.0 out of 5 stars An essential cd
OK not his greatest sides but an essential cd for all lovers of this seminal rhythm and blues vocalist - and four alternate versions as a bonus!

3.0 out of 5 stars Some diamonds during the decline
It's always sad to witness the decline of a once-great talent, and unfortunately, this first-ever collection of Clyde's mid-'60s singles for Amy Records makes us do just that. Still, even as he was going downhill, Clyde could still manage a few golden moments. His third (?) Amy single, "Everybody Loves A Good Time" b/w "Little Bit of Sunshine,"...

It's always sad to witness the decline of a once-great talent, and unfortunately, this first-ever collection of Clyde's mid-'60s singles for Amy Records makes us do just that. Still, even as he was going downhill, Clyde could still manage a few golden moments. His third (?) Amy single, "Everybody Loves A Good Time" b/w "Little Bit of Sunshine," should've been a big 2-sided hit. And you've never heard "Everybody's Somebody's Fool" done THIS way before - as a gospel sermon, complete with choir! These tracks alone make this CD worth your while.

While most of Clyde's Mercury recordings remain unavailable on CD
and his early 70's (Northern Soul) collectible LP "Welcome Home"
remains unreleased, it is amazing that a company would release these Amy recordings by Clyde that came right inbetween these two
eras. While they may not be examples of his BEST work, Clyde's
voice and these great soul arrangements blend together to make for an exciting and welcome addition to any 60's soul collector,
or any CLyde McPhatter fan. Probably will be out of print before long, so grab it now, you won't regret it.
