Book Description

When Laramie Porter’s sister-in-law Julie is beaten so badly by her husband she miscarries her baby, Laramie takes her home from the hospital. But just a few minutes after the women arrive home, Julie’s husband, who also happens to be a drug addict and the local police sheriff, shows up at the house on a murderous rampage.

He kills Julie and attempts to murder Laramie. When he doesn’t succeed, he hauls them into the mountains and throws them off a cliff. Julie’s body lands in a pond, but Laramie hits a ledge, where she perches, terrified.

Derrick Garrison is in the mountains moving his cattle when his dog finds Julie’s body in the pond. Creeped out, Derrick at first doesn’t believe his ears when he hears a girl crying for help. But he finds Laramie and pulls her to safety. Before she can tell him anything, a lightning strike starts a forest fire and they flee to a hidden valley.

Fleeing a drug hazed killer, the fire, and a gun-toting old lady bent on collecting a reward, Laramie and Derrick do their best to evade all three . . . and fall in love along the way.

5.0 out of 5 stars This Story Has It All!! May 3, 2013
Format:Paperback
D'Ann has written a story brimming with jump-off-the-page characters, tons of conflict, suspense that keeps you on the edge of your seat and a setting so vividly written it is almost another character. She grabbed me from page one and didn't let go. D'Ann is an author on my "Always Read" list!

5.0 out of 5 stars Non-stop tension July 14, 2013
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
Shot Through the Heart is a fast-paced, high tension example of romantic suspense. The action and suspense don't let up for half a page. The characters are interesting and believable, and Lindun makes the reader feel the frustration of their impossible situation, as they struggle to stay two steps ahead of the villain, while attempting to convince the police that one of their own has gone bad. She also draws a vivid picture of the valleys and mountains of Colorado, with all the beauty and danger of the wilderness. I'm looking forward to reading more of Lindun's books.

5.0 out of 5 stars Page-turning romantic suspense! March 16, 2013
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
I knew when I sampled the first few pages of this book that I shouldn't start it until I had some time to invest, and I was right. Ms. Lindun hits the ground running from the first page of this story about two people thrown head-first into a life and death situation neither of them signed up for. I finished this book in a day. I loved the hero, Derrick, and rooted for the heroine, Laramie. I'll be reading more of this author.

4.0 out of 5 stars Fast-Paced, Full of Action August 20, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition
Shot Through the Heart starts off with high drama when Laramie Porter gets caught in the middle of a domestic violence situation between her drug addicted brother, and the sister-in-law that has become her best friend. She finds herself abandoned to die in a rainstorm.

Derrick Garrison finds her and pulls her to safety, only to be discovered by the brother who's determined to pursue and kill them. As the town sheriff, her brother Lawrence, has enough credibility to pass anyone's suspicion and get away with it.

This book is a quick read - very fast paced, and full of action. D'Ann has a way with Westerns and depicts a vivid picture of the settings and characters involved.

A good read, full of turmoil to keep you on the edge of your seat.

5.0 out of 5 stars Edge of your seat suspense October 25, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition
Warning...D'Ann Lindun's "Shot Through the Heart" will keep you up reading late into the night. With very believable characters and plot line, it is filled with edge of the seat suspense from page one.

Laramie is thrown into a life threatening adventure when she tries to help her sister-in-law to safety after being beaten so bad that she lost her unborn child. To make things worse, it was Laramie's brother Lawrence that she needed protected from. An enraged Lawrence who happens to be the local sheriff, will do anything to keep his drug addiction a secret, including murdering his wife and try to silence his sister. Derrick is the perfect cowboy hero, determined to protect Laramie and discover her secrets. So how do you get people to believe you when the bad guy is a well liked, upstanding sheriff?

A great read. Can't wait for D'Ann's next book.

5.0 out of 5 stars Sizzling, Western Read August 20, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
From the minute I saw the cover of this book I knew I had to read it - love a cowboy in chaps! Plus, the title had me singing Bon Jovi, and that is never a bad thing! But back to the book: Shot Through the Heart is a suspenseful read packed with twists and turns that I didn't see coming. I loved Derrick's rescue of Laramie in the opening chapters, and the heat between them continued to build - just like the forest fire they're escaping.

D'Ann Lindun draws the Western landscape so clearly I could see the mountains, trees, streams and ponds. This book put me in mind of a more modern Louis L'Amour novel - and I loved Louis as a kid! If you're looking for a fun, Western read chock-full of cowboys, murder and a happily ever after, give this book a try.

More About the Author

Falling in love with romance novels the summer before sixth grade, D'Ann Lindun never thought about writing one until many years later when she took a how-to class at her local college. She was hooked! She began writing and never looked back. Romance appeals to her because there's just something so satisfying about writing a book guaranteed to have a happy ending.
D'Ann's particular favorites usually feature cowboys and the women who love them. This is probably because she draws inspiration from the area where she lives, Western Colorado, her husband of twenty-nine years and their daughter. Composites of their small farm, herd of horses, five Australian shepherds, three ducks and cats of every shape and color often show up in her stories!
