5.0 out of 5 stars Action Packed!
Good Stuff:

This book was action packed

While it's not on the same line as the Jack Daniel's series, it does have her in it and a few funny lines. It also has her partner - When he as SKINNY!

As usual for Konrath, this is of publishable quality.

Bad Stuff:

I can't even think of anything, except maybe that it was sad...

3.0 out of 5 stars A 24-hour stay in a Fun House.
From the first page, this book is like stepping into a fun house. It's a fast, wild ride that rarely slows down. I found myself connecting with and rooting for Tequila the entire time. The violence is like a Tarentino movie, over the top and there are some disturbing images, so be warned. I enjoyed the read and the ride and would recommend it if you like exciting action...

Bad Stuff:

I can't even think of anything, except maybe that it was sad in a few parts. Oh, wait, that's not 'bad'. Never mind.

Overall:

Warning: This book does contain rape, violence, bad language, cruelty to animals, blood, gore, action, and more violence.

If any of this stuff bothers you, skip it. I hear the Food Network has some good shows.

Mr. Konrath commented on my review, and after reading his comment, I feel it is noteworthy enough to add the information here. This is an old review of mine, and I didn't go into enough detail.

From the author, J.A. Konrath:

The author here, pointing out that the "cruelty to animals" is actually seven pit bull mastiffs who are trained to kill, while my hero fights for his life. I have three dogs and love them, and dogs were the heroes in my books AFRAID and ENDURANCE. The animals in this book are the bad guys. It's also worth noting that there is no graphic rape in this book. It happens off the page. Yes, Tequila is a violent novel. But it's a cartoon kind of violence, like Die Hard or old Schwartzenegger movies.

5.0 out of 5 stars Konrath Does It Again!, February 15, 2010

I recently found Konrath via a posting on the Kindle boards which took me to his website/blog which then took me to his books. I just finished Shot of Tequila and his 6 Jack Daniel's books (the series that starts with Whiskey Sour) and I have enjoyed them all! A mix of humor, horror, and action all in the perfect combination that can't be beat.

On a personal note, I wanted to share an observation I had while reading this book with Mr. Konrath and sent him an email. Not only did he respond with great warmth and kindness, he responded the same day. It is really a pleasure to have such a intimate relationship with an author of books you enjoy. Another positive for indie/self-published Kindle authors! :)

5.0 out of 5 stars Fast-paced with plenty of action!, January 2, 2012
This review is from: Shot of Tequila (Kindle Edition)
Just finished reading Shot of Tequila by the big Indie man himself, J.A. Konrath. This is probably the third or fourth book of his that I've read, and while I really enjoyed his other works for their originality and concepts, this book was the best one yet. I can't put my finger on why... Maybe it felt more polished/ complete, or maybe it was the fast-paced, notched-up tension Konrath managed to hold throughout most of the novel.

Or perhaps it was the way Konrath managed to get me rooting for a career thug with a heart of stone. He managed to make the bad guy one of the good guys. I guess, like anything, it's all about perspective.

At any rate, I found myself reading all through dinner, walking down the hall, even in the bathtub (a big No-no on an ipad!) which is how I know the book had me roped in good. That, and the book read like a movie- meaning I could practically "see" the crazy, adventurous, bloody scenes in my head. I wouldn't be surprised at all if Shot of Tequila gets made into a movie. Of course, by the time studio execs were done with it they'd remove a few things that some might find too gory or violent, but that I think made the novel that much richer.

4.0 out of 5 stars A crisp, fast-paced read, February 26, 2011
Shot of Tequila is a hard-hitting, violent, and excellent read by J.A. Konrath. Tequila is a mob enforcer framed for stealing from his boss. We are treated to an early version of Jack Daniels and a thinner version of her partner Herb Benedict. We see a small glimpse into Jack's doomed marriage to Alan Daniels. There were some genuinely emotional passages involving Tequila's upbringing and his love for his sister, which leavened the violence and mayhem somewhat.

If there is one quibble, it's that Tequila seems to be superhuman and virtually impervious to pain. He takes an inhuman amount of punishment, yet is still able to function.

4.0 out of 5 stars I Finally Got To Root For The Enforcer!!!!, February 23, 2011
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
I think that fiction/tv/movies have a tendency to disassociate us to the real effects of crime and crime families. I really like the Jack Daniels series and I almost didn't read this one because it featured these particular characters, but I am so glad I did. I finally got to root for a person who is, essentially, a bad guy. But he takes care of his sister, doesn't kill for pleasure and treats people with respect. He doesn't force himself on others nor does he take even the slightest incident as an episode requiring a lesson in "respect." I actually want him to win, find out who set him up, and get revenge for the rape/murder of his sister and the attack on him and his home....and I'm only halfway through. But....now I want my own pair of custom 45s and a custom rig to match his......Konrath, you are bankrupting me.

3.0 out of 5 stars Not a bad read, January 17, 2011
An enforcer named Tequila works for a bookie, and it seems that millions is missing and the bookie thinks that Tequila has taken it. The bookie sends his men out to find Tequila and bring him to the bookie, and the bookie wil make Tequila pay for his actions. The only thing is that Tequila didn't take it. There are a lot of people after Tequila, but the thing is, that's what he likes, and the bad guys have no idea what they are getting into and Jack Daniels is right in the middle of it.

Over all, this was a decent read. Not fantastic, but decent. I will say that this has a lot of action in it. I really liked the character of Tequila. He has no problem taking a life, if hsi is in danger. We get a lot of info in Tequila's bacground, and as a result, we can't help but to like him, and root for him.

If you've read the Jack Daniels series, then you know what to expect from Konrath.

Enjoyed this book from beginning to end. I had a hard time putting the book aside to just eat or sleep. Please bring TEQUILA back as well as PHIN. I LOVE the Jack Daniels book with her partner Herb they are about Protect and Serve but so funny together.
Are you ever coming to Brooklyn New York for a book tour. I'll be first on line.
