Book Description

"Shotgun" tells the story of Roger Brooks, a mild-mannered family man sucked into a hidden subculture of elves and fairy creatures when he discovers the world's most powerful magic in his silverware drawer. Whisked away to the elven capital, Roger's faced with unraveling the mystery behind a series of attacks that could only be perpetrated by an inside agent. Can Roger track down the traitor, or are his new duties as the elves' greatest champion too much for any human to bare?

Meanwhile, in Detroit, Talora awakens on a park bench with no memory and no clue if the antlers growing out of her forehead are supposed to be there. Taken under the wing of the mysterious Witch, Talora is introduced to the darker side of the magical world as she searches out clues to her missing past while working for a shadowy cabal of demons intent on ruling the planet.

When our two heroes' paths finally cross and the Witch's villainous plan explodes around them, they'll have to learn to work together–or die trying.

Subversive, unique, and hilarious, "Shotgun" is the kick in the pants the urban fantasy genre desperately deserves.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent Writing March 4, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition|Amazon Verified Purchase
This is not my genre of choice but someone sent me a hilarious post from this author's blog, and I knew his work had to be entertaining. And it is! He is also an excellent and very polished writer and spins a humorous and interesting tale. Although, as I said, I don't usually read this genre, I would read another book by this author and anything else he happened to write.

4.0 out of 5 stars Great debut with a funny and fast-paced urban fantasy January 9, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition|Amazon Verified Purchase
With a Douglas Adam's flare for quirky humor, Scott Colby throws the reader into the world behind our world where salvation lies in the hands of an uncertain human and his battered shotgun of immense power.

Roger is an affable, anti-hero--his faith in himself shaken after his wife splits. Finding the greatest weapon in the universe in his silverware drawer does little to turn him to hero, but it does give him an edge as he realizes he may indeed be capable of saving the world.

Talora is a mystery to herself--why can't she remember who she is? Why are there antlers sprouting from her head? One thing is certain though, Talora's magic is as chaotic as it is destructive.

Roger and Talora tread separate paths of discovery through a world run from behind the shadows. When their courses cross it is uncertain whether they will collide destructively or join together, but the fate of the world hinges on their actions.

Colby's debut Urban Fantasy novel is an enjoyable page-turner. His characters are compelling, his action fierce and his writing style hilarious.

More About the Author

Scott Colby has been writing for a looooooooooong time. It started back in fourth grade, when Scott got really bored in class and decided to entertain himself by writing ten page epics about he and his friends. He soon got caught and was forced to read his stories to the whole class. Undaunted by this heinous punishment, Scott kept on writing and soon was cranking out dozens of pages of prose every month.

Scott's debut novel, "Shotgun," was first written in his senior year of high school. It went through several more incomplete rewrites until he got serious about it in the summer of 2011 and finally put together a version he was happy with. "Shotgun," an urban fantasy epic, was published on December 17, 2011.

Scott was born in 1983 in Manchester, New Hampshire. He now resides in Somerville, Massachusetts. When he isn't writing, he pays the bills as an IT professional.
