I love this record. It moves and thrives. It is heady and catchy and easy and sophisticated all at once. Preview it at his website (brandonpatton.com) and see if it isn't worth the price.

Lovely indeed,

A sweet 'n' low album of love songs and other ballads. Patton will charm your heart and your pants off. Your toes will tap, your head will nod, and you will sing his ditties in your head for the next three days.

Brandon is brilliant. He articulates emotion in words and music like no other boy with a guitar. There's a bit of everything on this album and I cannot stop playing it over and over again. Yeah!

This is a fabulous album -- Patton's best so far. Beautiful lyrics, great use of acoustic guitar and myriad other instruments, great vocal range, just great stuff. It feels like everything else Patton has been in anticipation of, and leading up to, this point. His diverse range of musical interests and abilities are on on display here, and all working together. Really a great album; I highly recommend it!!

To start off, Brandon Patton now resides in Brooklyn, NY, but let's not split hairs with Amazon.
Having seen Brandon perform live in his two-person show, JUKEBOX STORIES (with playwright Prince Gomalvilas), a number of times, I can safely say that his charisma, his down-to-earthiness, and his humor do come across in this CD. Where the styles do range a bit, there is a solid foundation of musicianship and self-effacing storytelling. My first opinion on Brandon's work was very "Jack-Johnson-ish," but Brandon's stylings are, I feel, less easy to pigeonhole. The music is more like older-era storytellers: Some songs have similar structures, but the content changes, and then you find these very different styles thrown in (yeah, it's vague, but I've spent a good two years trying to pin this dude's styings down). At any rate, pick this CD up. Go see Brandon live when you can as well(brandonpatton.com). |
