Editorial Reviews

About the Author

Hugleikur Dagsson's silly little cartoons took the Icelandic counter-culture scene by storm when they were initially published as photocopies stapled together by the author himself. Subsequently, the book has become a best-seller in Iceland - and he has produced a play of the book which recently won the Best Play of 2005 award in Iceland's main national newspaper. Hugleikur lives in Reykjavik - and is talk of the town. He is currently working on a musical.

5.0 out of 5 stars Crude, rude, awful, and hilarious! November 7, 2007
By A. Iott
I have rarely seen a more accurate title (the only better one would be the title already taken by a National Lampoon album, called "That's Not Funny, That's Sick!"). This book is not for the faint of heart: it includes cruelty to children (and their parents), awful deaths, sex in the wrong place at the wrong time, to mention but the tip of the iceberg-- and yet surprisingly you may find yourself laughing at all of it. Much of it is incredibly twisted, and not in the way we Americans think of the term either. Dagsson, and for that matter Iceland, deserves an internationally recognized award in the twisted department.

Great book. Don't leave it out where your relatives will find it, unless they're as sick as you are.

5.0 out of 5 stars Amazing November 27, 2007
This book is hilarious. I went to a bookstore, simply to peruse and browse, and I came across this book. I sat down in the middle of an aisle at the bookstore and I read the entire thing in one sitting. I was cracking up and laughing out loud in the middle of the silent bookstore. Even though I had read the entire book, I still spent $15 on the book. The only thing I regret about buying the book is that I didn't buy it on Amazon for 2/3 the price. This book is horrid, twisted, demented and exactly the type of humour I love. I recommend this book to anyone with a true sense of humour and anyone who is searching for a good laugh. And it is not for the politically correct.

4.0 out of 5 stars disturbing brash honesty November 1, 2008
This humor employs a minimal amount of text and image to convey deeply disturbing situations with brash honesty. The cartoons are understood best in the context of Iceland, a country largely devoid of the darker social ills ubiquitous with United States and much of the world. The country is very small and safe with some of the best looked after childen in the world. Hugleikur is so popular in Iceland that he was comissioned to illustrate the national telephone directory. This humor is very direct and much of it reveals the true psychology behind common aspects of modern life.

5.0 out of 5 stars Darkness is OK, if it makes you laugh. February 20, 2014
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
This guy is twisted in the best possible way. Buy this, and find out how sick you are when you laugh at things you shouldn't.

4.0 out of 5 stars Very,very,very good! But... June 6, 2013
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
I felt something similar, close to, such as... I had those thaughts that you're not suppose to think of. I was and is still in awe about Dagsson's work, but be aware that what you'll find in one of his book you will find in the other. Word for word! "Avoid Us" and "Should you be Laughing at This" are exactly the same..

5.0 out of 5 stars One of the best books ever! August 4, 2011
By Bob
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
Sick, twisted, demented... this book is brilliant, and not real. You don't have to agree with, or do, the things in this book. You just have to be able to laugh at a cartoon. It's not real. That's why you can laugh at it. Most things in this book will never ever happen. If you don't know that you are in serious need of a life.

3.0 out of 5 stars Good for a few chuckles, but not much else June 3, 2011
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
I was expecting lots of humorous descriptions, but I only found a laugh every 10 or so pages. I don't regret purchasing it, but as a product, I can't recommend it to anyone.

5.0 out of 5 stars Best bathroom reader of all time July 22, 2010
Format:Hardcover|Verified Purchase
This book is for the slightly demented. Being slightly to highly demented, I loved it. If you enjoy jokes about incest, murder, cannibalism, sex, and just about every sin imaginable, I highly recommend it.
