NOT the longer, un-edited version as claimed,

Unfortunately this feels like a bootleg version of a very fine movie. The movie gets 5 stars, the DVD gets one. Despite what is claimed in the technical description, this version runs about 114 minutes, well short of the original 150 minute original film. Also, the DVD is a very grainy copy of a pan and scan film, making it very apparent you are missing about half of each scene. The real tragedy is that there isn't another version of this film on DVD at the present time. I'd only consider buying this DVD if you really need any version of this fine film. In the meantime, all we can do is dream of an un-edited, anamorphic widescreen transfer of this classic movie. Evergreen Entertainment, who released this version says on the back of the box that the DVD is only authorized for sale in Hong Kong and Macau. Must be because no one else would be happy with such a poor effort.

I agree with Mr Glass this is a bad copy of a great movie. To bad there are no better copies. The movie was cut and the quility of the dvd is bad. DO NOT buy this dvd.

An American International release ( I want to say 1975 ) with Lee Marvin and Roger Moore in southern Africa at the onset of WWI. A good natured, humor romp through most of the film, though it does get darker after Barbara Parkins baby is killed. Not the greatest transfer and my copy has little skips. Still a watchable product from China, just remember to turn off the subtitles first! Lee Marvin was the archytpal tough guy in most of his career but could be incredibly effective in lighter roles with comedy -- a forte of Roger Moore. By and large a fun film. Directed by Peter Hunt ( ON HER MAJESTY'S SECRET SERVICE -- one of the best Bond films ever). A good time is guarenteed for all -- as the Beatles said in Mr Kite.
