5.0 out of 5 stars Good song writing is universal, regardless of genre, June 14, 2002
By A Customer
The Mr. T Experience's pop punk sound has had tremendous influence on music culture, but regardless of how well written and witty the songs were that trademark sound could get repetitive. Singer-song writer Dr. Frank became frustrated with the fact that all of the songs he had written for the Mr. T Experience's stellar album "Revenge is Sweet and So Are You" came out sounding essentially the same and opted to use a solo album as his chance to diversify his sound. He has truely succeeded on every level.

The biggest difference between this and prior MTX albums is the lack of punk. About half of the songs draw from various rock influences sans the repetitive punk guitar, while the other half are basically accoustic. The electric songs are filled with the standard MTX wit we've come to expect (lyrics such as "My heart belongs to whom it may concern") but it is the accoustic tracks that really shine. In this stripped down format the songs have much more of an emotional impact. The contrast between light hearted love songs and folky tear-jerkers may seem jarring at first, but ultimately makes for a rewarding listening experience full of (often hilarious) highs and (universal)lows.

In fact, the whole album runs essentially like a particularly diverse set played at a small coffee house venue; short, bitter-sweet, personal and highly entertaining. Show business as a reflection of life.

5.0 out of 5 stars What every album should be, May 31, 2001

To put it bluntly, Dr. Frank is a genious, probably so much so that the music buying public just cannot comprehend the man. His lyrics consist of genuine, mindboggling takes on girls, lonliness, girls, alcohol, and of course girls. Witty, smart and totally rock n roll.

*** i had to revisit my review from nearly 2 years ago... and the verdict still stands... DR FRANK is a genious and this album rocks!***

A great album that equals any "Mr. T" effort--really funny lyrics and catchy melodies.

5.0 out of 5 stars dr.frank the world needs you, May 11, 1999

amazing , dr. frank has grown up right in front of us . i started listening to mr.t exp in 1986 , my jr. year in high school . every time i got dumped dr.frank was there with all the advice that a good doctor should give . catchy tunes and lyrics that could have come straight out of my diary . this solo outing finds the doctor in fairly good spirits considering that hes had to sit and watch bay area kids reap millions off of his sound . imagine the partridge family , morrissey , and the buzzcocks all frankenstiened together . bliss , six stars , beter than all of the mrtx cds put together .
