A delightful CD,
This review is from: Show Some Emotion (Audio CD)
Mr. DeLucia has compiled a felicitous collection of music on his CD, "Show some emotion". And emotion is indeed artfully displayed in these warm and expressive works. There are generous sharings of early 20th century French music. Debussy's "Suite Bergamasque", with its classical hit- "Claire de Lune" is here, as well as Ravel's superb "Sonatine". Germaine Tailleferre, a woman composer from the same period, is represented by two short pieces, as well as a prelude by Robert Casadesus, a brilliant pianist who has left us a body of music that begs to be heard by more ears. Casdedeus writes in a distinctive style, not particularly influenced by the "impressionist" style one so frequently associates with early 20th century French music. There are also pieces by composors most of us have not heard of. Claudio Santoro is represented by a delicate minature that recalls Sao Paulo in Brazil. And there is a piece by Rick Robertson, a Romance that reminds one of a gentle Chopin nocturne. Mr. DeLucia plays with great expression, in that he carefully plans the space between each note, letting the music breath in deep and sonorous ways. If you love romantic piano music, you will love this CD.
