Editorial Reviews

From Publishers Weekly

The fifth Peter and Kori Brichter story, after Original Sin , features too little of Peter, who makes only a token appearance at the end, and too many technical explanations about Arabian show horses. Horse-farm owner Kori, her trainer Danny and new groom Britanny take five horses to the Lafite, Ill., All-Arab Show, and immediately become embroiled in gossip surrounding trainer Keith Bulward. Kori watches Bulward bash an owner's prize mare in the nose, and then learns that he has intimidated a rival trainer, threatened Brit and sold the show's manager, a state senator, a sterile colt as the foundation for his stud farm. ? easier to read this way When the trainer is found dead, his throat cut by his hoof knife, Brit is arrested for the crime. Kori calls Peter for help, but he is delayed at home, so she decides to do some sleuthing of her own, even though local police investigator Eleanor Ritter seems to have the situation under control. Routine question-and-answer sessions and vital clues reserved for the tale's end diminish this mystery's appeal.

From School Library Journal

YA-- A delightful mystery, particularly for horse fanatics. Kori Brichter is a horse farm owner, whose Arabian filly is competing in a local show. There, her 18-year-old groom is accused of murdering another groom, a man noted for his cruelty both to animals and his fellow humans. When the police delay the show in order to investigate, Kori decides to get it going by solving the crime herself. There is a lot of detail about horses, shows, and trading in this story that's sure to hold the attention of animal fans as well as mystery lovers.

5.0 out of 5 stars Arabian Horses and Murder--What more could you ask?, June 28, 2000

This Kori Brichter mystery features an all-Arab horse show. A handler no one likes is killed and Kori's groom is suspected. This mystery is very well done and moves quickly. The background stories of the competitors is also interesting. I recommend this book highly.
