Book Description

3 and up
It’s show-and-tell day in Mrs. Madoff’s preschool, and each of the ten students brings in something special to share. The objects may be small, but they offer picture windows into each child’s heart and reveal his or her emerging individuality.

Mother and daughter Anne and Lizzy Rockwell perfectly capture one of childhood’s quintessential events in this delightful early picture book. Look out next season for another exciting day with Mrs. Madoff’s class: Halloween.

Amazon.com Review

From the mother and daughter team of Anne (author) and Lizzy (illustrator) Rockwell comes this chipper little book about the thrill of bringing something great to Show and Tell; it's also about the great stuff the other kids bring. Members of this happy, multicultural crew of kindergartners offer a little brother's pajamas, a photo from home, maracas, origami, and plenty more. Finally, after much anticipation, our narrator surprises the class with a very scary mask he's made himself. Triumphant, he's sure that Show and Tell day is the best day of the week.

From School Library Journal

PreSchool-K. In this fairly uninvolving picture book, 10 preschoolers share various items on show-and-tell day, including a feather, a plastic dinosaur, a robot, and a scary mask. The writing is dull, basically along the order of "Pablo brought in a pair of maracas and showed us how to make music with them." One gets the sense that the author is building up to some sort of surprise or big ending, but the story stops with a thud when the young narrator dons his mask and thinks none of his classmates know it's him. That's it. The illustrations are flat, featuring multicultural kids who have remarkably similar expressions. This could have been so much more, and considering the author and illustrator, it's surprising it isn't.?Christine A. Moesch, Buffalo & Erie County Public Library, NY

This review is from: Show & Tell Day (Paperback)
Everyone brings something special to share for Show and Tell day. The illustrations tell a wonderful story of each "something special" and then the family life of each child in this kindergarten class. This book is a good way to warm up children about to enter kindergarten. The illustrations do a fine job of showing activities in school.
