This review is from: Show and Tell: Exploring the Fine Art of Children's Book Illustration (Hardcover)
Show and Tell: Exploring the Fine Art of Children's Book Illustration finally elevates the illustrations in children's books to the status it deserves. Browsing through this book, the reader sees first hand the quality of the art available to children in their picture books. Children's illustrators have been under appreciated for years. The author of Show and Tell educates adults about the significance and importance of the illustrations in a children's book--something not lost on children by the way. The reader sees how the art carries the emotion of the story and tells so much more than words can. Artists use all different media to illustrate children's books allowing children to grow in art appreciation from very young ages. The artists spotlighted in Show and Tell are representative of the different styles of art available to children in their books today. The author of this book was the first person to put together an exhibit of the art from children's books bringing that art an acceptance it richly deserves.

The illustrations are reproduced beautifully. The biographies are well written and give you a sense of the personalities of the illustrators, as well as some useful information on technique. Loved it.

I also am an Illustrator, and a teacher - now retired, so back in my studio almost full time. I love reading, and children's books. This was helpful from a planning point of view, as I am currently in the process of illustrating a children's book. My Grandchildren loved reading it, too.

Viridescent Visuals and An Insider's Peek at Illuminating Illustrators,
This review is from: Show and Tell: Exploring the Fine Art of Children's Book Illustration (Hardcover)
When I latched onto this illuminating book, feeling the rich cover delighted me even before I joyfully dove into the illustrations and sunk into savoring the first wondrous words. Paging through "Show and Tell" is like taking a trip with Alice in Wonderland, magic secrets revealed. Page after page, poignant vignettes empower you to get into the fascinating psyche of 12 celebrated illustrators. Shame on me, an artsy, metaphor-loving psychologist, I had never connected the emotional dots between author and illustrator. Thanks to Dilys Evans, you appreciate an illustrator's arduous creative processes. You get a sneak peek into their souls, exploring how their multi-faceted awareness sifts and shifts until spirit is born onto paper. If you have never paused to understand the tapestry of mind mechanics laced with colorful imagination, go grab a copy of this amazing book now.
