3.0 out of 5 stars Well-written story, annoying heroine, August 5, 2008
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Show and Tell (The Fortune Hunter Books) (Mass Market Paperback)
First, what I didn't like. Haynes' followup to The Fortune Hunter is a bit disappointing thanks to the heroine's instantaneous personality adjustment. I felt like Trinity's transition from sexually uptight calorie-counter to icecream scarfing exhibitionist was way too abrupt. (And I do mean exhibitionist.) Scott, on the other hand, is a really sweet older man who puts up with Trinity's insistence on anonymity for what seems like forever. He's like a candidate for pervy sainthood. I wish he was not so recently divorced. I didn't like the feeling that he and Trin were both on the rebound.
And at the end, Trinity's journey of self-discovery was not convincing. After all, she still lived in a condo owned by her father, held a created-just-for-her paperpushing position in her father's company, and spent too much time fantasizing about sex on the job. I wanted to scold her for using office time at a job she asked for to daydream and write provocative emails. Finally, what's with the name Trinity? A very unusual name, but no one reacts to it. This ain't the Matrix.

Now what I did like. Trinity can be very funny. She is a believable spoiled princess; we never find out she's secretly been helping out at an orphange or homeless shelter, although she does raise money for charity at the country club. I enjoyed reconnecting with Josie and the happily pregnant main couple from The Fortune Hunter. I like that Scott is an older man whose personality grounds Trinity's, and I appreciated Trinity's mature attempts to bring peace to her family.

All in all, this book is flawed BUT entertaining, and I will continue to read The Fortune Hunter Books.

5.0 out of 5 stars Sexy contemporary romance!, July 1, 2008

This review is from: Show and Tell (The Fortune Hunter Books) (Mass Market Paperback)
Catching her husband of only six months in the midst of cheating on her strikes a huge blow to Trinity Green's self-esteem, forcing her to re-examine the way she has lived her life until now. While his infidelity is initially devastating, it serves as the push she needs to start really living instead of denying herself every genuine or sensual experience in fear it will make her seem less `perfect'. Perfection isn't all it turns out to be, as she discovers.

Enter Scott Sinclair. A little exhibitionism and anonymous sex with the sexy older man seems just what the doctor ordered. Without the burden of her name between them, Trinity is free to become the woman she has long stifled deep inside.

But with every tryst, Scott realizes more and more that he needs this mystery woman in his life on a more permanent basis. What will it take to convince his commitment-skittish lover to open up and let him into her life for good, especially when she has yet to tell him her real name?

After reading Jasmine Hayne's novel The Fortune Hunter, I was primed and ready for its sequel, Show and Tell. Imagine my utter delight when I had the chance to review this very book!

Show and Tell picks up the story approximately six months after the previous book ends, with Trinity Green now married and living with her husband. Of course, that situation changes almost immediately when she discovers his torrid affair with another woman and wastes no time kicking the louse out.

Thus begins Trinity's soul-searching. She realizes her life until now has been a sham, that her fear of being viewed as less than perfect has caused her to miss out on the best things that life has to offer. Her resolve to change that situation begins that very night, with some rather surprising and definitely delicious results.

Trinity's transformation is just plain inspiring. Instead of dwelling on her pain, this woman takes what is the worst moment of her life and learns from it, using it to grow as a person in every way that counts. She doesn't limit herself to simple personal and romantic growth - the changes she undergoes propel her to strive for professional success as well.

While far from perfect, Scott is certainly the perfect man to aid Trinity in her quest. More than that, he soon proves himself the perfect man for her as he shows her again and again that he loves her for herself - every little flaw, every idiosyncrasy. From the moment they meet, he is enamored of Trinity, and his adoration of her grows into full-fledged love before either of them know what hit them. He is infinitely patient with her, giving her the time and space she requires even as his own heart is begging to rush things, to claim her for his own. Of course, like I said - he isn't perfect and he definitely makes some mistakes along the way. But oh, how he does make up for them!!! *shivers*

Show and Tell is a book that proves once again that Jasmine Haynes is an indisputably talented romantic author. With sizzling love scenes that will stir both the loins and the heart coupled with realistic and likable characters that leap off the page as if in full 3-D color, she effortlessly creates a story that will hold a special place in readers' hearts for a long time to come.

5.0 out of 5 stars Show and Tell-A Joyfully Recommended Title!!, July 3, 2008
This review is from: Show and Tell (The Fortune Hunter Books) (Mass Market Paperback)
Trinity Green is restless. Six months ago, she eloped with Harper and while she enjoys married life, it isn't the earth-shattering sensation she thought it would be. Coming home early from her best friend's baby shower, Trinity suddenly finds out why. Her husband is in the shower and he is not alone. One nasty and uncomfortable scene later, Trinity Green no longer considers herself married. Unable to stay in the bed she and her husband shared, Trinity checks into a hotel for the night. Tired of being the pretty perfect girl everyone knows and expects, Trinity vows to begin living her life as she wants. And right then she wants to touch herself.

Scott Sinclair has been alone for a few years and while women like him, his life revolves around work and his college-aged daughters. Checking into the hotel because of an early morning flight, Scott hears the feminine moans through the electrical outlet in his hotel room. The woman's sighs of pleasure are subtle but intoxicating. Knowing he shouldn't be listening to something so intimate, he can't help himself and moves closer to the sound. Perceptive enough to identify he is perverted for listening, Scott realizes that the woman is alone. Alone and in charge of her own pleasure. Tired of a lifetime of controlling his impulses, Scott does the one thing guaranteed to either get him arrested or get him off. He goes next door with the intent of asking this mystery woman to let him watch.

With one impulsive act on Scott's part, a relationship between he and Trinity develops, albeit a secretive one. Trinity has yet to tell Scott her name and while Scott at first agrees, he later regrets this decision and does his best to get "Jezebel" to relinquish the last thing that keeps them strangers. Fantasy plays a part in their lives and each relishes the time they spend together. When Scott goes to a business meeting and comes face-to-face with his Jezebel, he smiles, knowing that he now has her where he wants her. And he wants her with every ounce of his being. Convincing her presents a greater challenge.

Trinity was introduced in The Fortune Hunter, also by Jasmine Haynes, as the best friend of Faith. Her persona was that of a beautiful, calorie-counting, perfectly groomed Barbie doll. She ate nothing she wasn't supposed to and acted as perfectly as she could. In Show and Tell, the Trinity Green that I knew existed was let out of her prison of perfection and if I could live half as gregariously through her, I would. She threw off her shackles of flawlessness and learned to live. Did she make mistakes? Yes. Could she have done things differently? Yes. Did she become the woman who learned to live life to the fullest and take chances? Yes, she did. Scott Sinclair was the male equivalent of Trinity. He had regrets about his life and wanted to throw caution to the wind with his relationship with "Jezebel". I believe he grew as a person as well. I know that each complemented the other and before they could understand and possibly accept it, they were in love. Convincing them that love wouldn't stifle their lives took a big longer. But when they did, I smiled.

Show and Tell affected me in ways I never counted on. I laughed, cried, and even got a bit miffed at both characters. I winced when they hit a roadblock in their relationship and blushed when they explored their fantasies. Believe you me, Show and Tell is definitely nothing like my second grade game of the same title. Enticing and erotic, Show and Tell is so sizzling it is hot enough to make the devil swoon. I couldn't put it down and hours later found myself going back and rereading different scenes. There is nothing about this book that I didn't like and I fully and Joyfully Recommend reading Show and Tell by Jasmine Haynes. Just make sure you have the air conditioner full blast and the ice cubes ready.
