5.0 out of 5 stars Awesome new band!
This is simply the best new rock n roll album to come out in over a decade. Every single song is great. For those who haven't heard them, think the Black Crowes meets AC/DC or something like that. Every song is catchy and rocks hard. You can't go wrong with this CD.

2.0 out of 5 stars The best album I have heard in a long long time -- but it installs a rootkit!
This is one of my favorite new albums over the past few years. It has that classic rock sound with a modern edge.

BUT the CD installs a ROOTKIT on your COMPUTER.

As a result this fantastic CD from a great band gets a two instead of the five that I would have given it. Thanks, Sony.

5.0 out of 5 stars Should Show and Tell to everyone, everywhere, October 17, 2004
By
This review is from: Show & Tell (Audio CD)
Although Silvertide is a new band, and nothing substitutes for experience, this band is truely amazing, as is this CD. This CD brings back the old kick-ass style of Rock and Roll from the 80's. None of this goth, death metal that has taken over the Rock community. Silvertide is all about having a great time and it shows through their music. My personal favorite part of this band is their guitarist. I don't remember his name, but he is phenominal. His solos remind me of the good old days with Slash and Eddie Van Halen, but with a great new style.

This CD will go down as one of the greats. Just like, Appetite for Destruction, Back in Black, and Led Zeppelin IV, this CD should be, wait, will be, owned by every rock fan in the world. It's great guitar riffs, amazing vocalist, and rock on attitude will inspire millions.

Every track is great and deserves to be on this CD.

1) AINT COMIN HOME- the perfect opening song to get to know this new band. It starts out with a basic percussion beat, and slowly adds the other instruments plus vocals to create that perfect party on feeling. About 75% done with the song, all the instruments stop and just the vocalist screams out orgasmic noises to bring in the magnificent guitar solo.

2) DEVIL'S DAUGHTER- An interesting guitar solo that quickly grows on you. This song is all bringing up to the choruses as the climax. There is a great little part of the song right before the the chorus that I can't stop singing.

3) SFC (So F*****g Crazy)- This song is simply kick-ass rock and roll. A great beat and nice distortion techniques enable this song to be a great one.

4) CALIFORNIA RAIN- This will be the second single of the album and it is just as good as the others. There is a great guitar lick behind the verses that helps the song rock. Also, the accompanying of other voices behind the main singer's is awesome.

5) BLUE JEANS- The song starts out with a fast worded soft verse that, like the rest of the song, focuses around sex. Then the guitar comes in and blows you away. Another amazing song.

6) MARY JANE- Definitely the hardest song on the album, MARY JANE definitely hits all the spots. The screaming/yelling of the vocalist really portrays his feelings and the back up vocals dont make it any worse. As with every other song, the guitar is unbelievable.

7) HEARTSTRONG- This is the first real slow ballad of off the album and has lots of emotion behind it. It is one of my favorites. You feel like you actually had the experience being sung about.

8) TO SEE WHERE I HIDE- This is my least favorite song on the CD, but it still is great. There is nothing much to say that hasnt been said about the other songs, so I'll leave it at that.

9) YOU WANT IT ALL- More sexual innuendo is featured in this song, and that just adds to the effect. "She wants more and more and more and more," are lyrics frequenting this song.

10) NOTHING STAYS- The second ballad on this album. This is a very relaxing and soothing song. There are also excellent lyrics to accompany the musicianship.

11) FOXHOLE J.C. (Jesus Christ)- This is by far my favorite track on the album. It is very original and has such a good message to it. It starts out with in your face rock and slowly transitions to a slow, piano accompanied, ending. The entire band chants "war, war, what is it for." It is truely inspirational.

If You are still reading, it means you are interested. So what are you doing, go out and buy this fanastic CD!

5.0 out of 5 stars The 70's are back and Silvertide's #1., October 12, 2004
This review is from: Show & Tell (Audio CD)
Every once and a while a band comes along that just seems to have everything. Silvertide is one of those bands. from the 1st track "Ain't comin' home" all the way through "Foxhole J.C." this album is a nonstop attack on your senses. Don't let their age fool you, Silvertide knows classic rock. Having opened for bands like Van Halen they know what it takes to make real music. This is one of the few albums i refuse to skip tracks on, every song on it is filled with pure talent and musical genius. While all the songs are undeniably great, I do have several favorites such as "Devil's daughter", "Blue jeans", and "Mary Jane!" If you remember what good music is supposed to sound like, you'll love this album. Also check out Silvertides EP "American Excess"

5.0 out of 5 stars Rock fans take notice!, September 28, 2004

This review is from: Show & Tell (Audio CD)
I saw Silvertide a few months ago when they opened for Tantric and Shinedown. They were without question the best opening band I have ever seen. Their energy and stage presence is nearly unbeatable. The fact that their live show was so impressive had me worried that their album wouldn't compare.

My fears were put to rest when I picked up 'Show and Tell' today. Every single song is filled with emotion and energy. Their songs are written and performed wonderfully. Each song commands the listener's attention from start to finish.

Quite simply, this is what I believe rock music should sound like. Creed was credited by many as the band that saved rock in the late 90's post industrial rock era. If that is the case, I believe that Silvertide will save rock music from the nu-metal era. Rock fads come and go, but bands like Silvertide will never go out of style.

4.0 out of 5 stars This album rocks hard!! (big GNR fan), September 28, 2004

I saw these guys back in May when they played the Riviera in Chicago as an opening act for Velvet Revolver and they rocked the house. The crowd wasn't very open-minded but I heard old school GNR, Black Crowes, and AC/DC in this band. Nick Perri, the lead guitar, has an Angus Young-like stage presence and the rhythm section of this band is great. Walt, the lead singer, has a great rock voice. This album is for nostalgic rock fans awaiting a hard rocking record after a prolonged period of nothingness in music. I gave the album 4 stars instead of 5 for a couple of reasons:
1. It's Silvertide's first record and some of their songs show it
2. I have other versions of 5 songs on the album, and the album versions sound different, mainly featuring less Nick Perri on lead guitar. This was a little disappointing

Other than that, I highly recommend this album. This is some good ole' bluesy rock that you can't pass up.

5.0 out of 5 stars A breath of fresh air - literally and figuratively, June 9, 2005
By

This review is from: Show & Tell (Audio CD)
I say figuratively, because, the band makes no bones or apologies about their drug use. They even wrote a song about it (and probably several if you listen closely enough to the lyrics) entitled "Mary Jayne."
In the literal sense, this band F**KING ROCKS!!! I had the pleasure of witnessing their AMAZING live act a couple of days ago when they opened for Collective Soul(who, by the way, also ROCK) in New Orleans at the House of Blues. I got there way early so I could get up close for the CS show, and to be quite honest, I had never really heard of Silvertide. But, when they walked out on stage, and Nick Perri began ripping up the night with his KICK ASS guitar riffs, I knew I was in for one wild night. As a matter of fact, I was less than a foot away from Perri as he jammed out through the night, interacting with lead singer Walt Lafty like a couple of guys just happy to be out of their parents' house.
I've read some critics' reviews, and they are being likened to a throwback version of Led Zepplin, Aerosmith and AC/DC. Personally, I think they sound more like the Black Crowes, but you can definitely hear the aforementioned bands' influences in their music.
They're incredibly down to Earth as well. My brother and I actually hung out with the drummer and bassist after the show, and they were totally interesting and down to Earth guys.
If Silvertide, who will be touring this Summer with Motley Crue, will be stopping in a city near you, you owe it to yourself to get out and witness the pure rock genius that is Silvertide.

5.0 out of 5 stars OMG!!! This band TOTALLY ROCKS!!!, January 28, 2005

This review is from: Show & Tell (Audio CD)
Thank God for Silvertide and Thank God for the Amazon "recommendations" list and music sampler, because without that, I may not have found out about this band...since I rarely listen to the radio anymore, choosing instead to listen to one of the more than 1000 CDs that I collected before REAL rock-n-roll was destroyed by all the crap that came out in the 90's.

Anyway, this CD was on my "recommended" list, so I hit the "Listen to all" button and gave it a try. It sounded pretty good, so I found a copy out on ebay and bought it. Let me tell you...The minute I put it in my CD player in my car, it totally blew me away!!! It instantly became one of my favorite CDs the first time I heard it! I've been listening to it nonstop ever since! And because it's so good, I fully intend to buy a new copy of it (import version this time-so as to get the bonus song)as well as the "American Excess" EP (since so many good things were said about the extra song that appears on that) from Amazon, so as to properly support this band!

Where did these guys come from??? They sound so classic, yet they're so young! It's hard to believe that amidst all of the apathetic "I hate the world" crap that's been coming out for the last decade, that this band has emerged with such a great sound in this current era! This is the return of REAL GOOD-TIME ROCK AND ROLL that we have all been waiting for!!! And all I can say is "I WANT MORE!"

In other reviews, they have been compared to The Black Crowes, AC/DC, Guns-N-Roses, Aerosmith, Zepplin, Tesla, George Lynch, Candlebox and Matchbox 20. Well, Aerosmith is a good comparison...and I definitely hear the Black Crowes influence, although for those of you who weren't big Black Crowe's fans, please don't let the comparison to them scare you away. While I thought the Black Crowes were a good band, they were never one of my favorites, as they were a little too bluesy for me. Silvertide has more of a classic rock feel to their music. I can hear Guns-N-Roses influence as well (Their musical influence that is...It should in no way be compared to the talentless vocals from the egocentric Axl Rose--Sorry to all you GNR fans out there, but even though their music was great, you have to admit that the vocals left MUCH to be desired--Silvertide's vocalist does what Axl Rose only wished he could do). Anyway, back to Silvertide...They also remind me very much of Lynch Mob and Junkyard.

I think the reason that Silvertide has been compared to so many bands is that there is a slightly different kind of influence that comes through on each one of their songs. While one may sound more like Aerosmith, another sounds more like GNR, etc...Each one sounds a little bit different from the rest. They make it really hard to choose a favorite. Honestly, while I like some better than others, I really do like them all. I listen to this CD straight through, from beginning to end, without skipping any of the songs, which is something that I rarely do.

You can tell by their music that these guys have some really deep musical roots, which most of the bands that came throughout the last decade obviously didn't have. Silvertide brings together aspects of the music from the 70's, the 80's and yes, even a little bit of the 90's to make one dynamic combination. As some of the others have said, I have not been this excited about a band in a very, very long time! Not since the Blonz released their self-titled CD back in 1990 (which was sadly at the time that REAL rock-n-roll was in decline, causing this band to not receive the credit they really deserved). For those of you who remember the Blonz, Silvertide has the same energetic feel to their music that the Blonz did. It's "feel good" rock!

All in all, this is just really GREAT straight-forward, good-time rock and roll that has a classic rock feel, with a slightly updated edge. I hope that these guys not only stay around for a really long time, giving us MORE of their great music, but also that they are an influence on the music industry in general so that we see more great bands like them in the future.

5.0 out of 5 stars A classic album, for sure., October 27, 2004

Let me first state that Mathwew C. Borda's opinion should be disregarded. I consider it an ultimately pathetic state to believe that the only things that are "new" are ones that indulge in the lie that is the absurd psuedo-intellectual limbo-game of being original and innovative. It's an equally, if not even more pathetic state to consider blues, classic rock, and modern retro-ish bands like Silvertide as all the same thing. If you can't see massive, substantial differences in core, creativity, and style in more than sixty years of musical progression, then you shouldn't ever talk about the subject of Rock because you're hopelessly biased towards a less sensical position. Music is to be enjoyed, and I hope that the majority of music fans around the world can understand that it's not a competition or a contest, and that it has nothing to do with any negativity that it recieves. Also it's tragically arrogant to assume that anyone actually has a full comprehension of what's new or what's been done before, since it's literally impossible to have heard everything.

Ranting aside, Silvertide's debut album is a true classic. I've personally never heard anything like it, and that's enough for me. Show And Tell is actually the first modern band's CD I've bought yet, since I don't count the new CDs from Classic Rock artists like Neil Young & Bob Dylan, nor do I count the modern CDs from independent bands that are old enough to have been around with Neil Young & Bob Dylan.

It took me three or four listens of Show And Tell for my love to reach its peak, but that's the way it is with most every CD I buy. One of the greatest compliments I have for Silvertide is that their music lies on that wonderful line where music has excessive raw-energy and power while still being as produced as possible. The music is great, the vocalist has a superb voice and the insturmental section is in good form.

The songs are fantastic. Songs such as Blue Jeans, Nothing Stays, Heartstrong, and California Rain are masterful and emotional hard rock ballads. Plus some songs, including Mary Jane and Ain't Comin Home, are supreme rock-out songs. And the album closer, Foxhole Jesus Christ, is both energetic and sorrowful.

The lyrics aren't deep or profound at all, but they are efficient and interesting. In the future I'd like to see longer songs and maybe more piano, but there's plenty of time for that since this is their first album. I wouldn't call it Led Zeppelin I, but it's a superb debut album that is already a true classic in my collection. I look forward to fond futures that involve my listening to Show And Tell again and again, and I hope that Silvertide will bring us more great albums in their career.

5.0 out of 5 stars CD of the Year!!!!!!!, September 29, 2004
This review is from: Show & Tell (Audio CD)
Without doubt the best cd I have heard in a very long time. Awesome sound, Awesome songs, Awesome rock! Bringing it back to basics and making an out and out, no frills, rock cd. Even though at times the vocals sound like Chris Robinson from Black Crowes has decided to change from hippy to glam Walt Lafty has his own style and a great voice that draws you in. Devil's Daughter, Blue Jeans, Mary Jane, Heartstrong, Ain't Comin' Home...all great tunes. No whining about how mommy didn't care or daddy would beat them...but instead we get good time rock n roll oozing sex, booze and good times. I can't get enough of this cd right now. If you are tired of hearing the same old boring trash like Linkin Park or Staind etc on the radio get this CD now and 'Show & Tell' with your friends!!! This rocks! Can't wait to see them live!
