A Long Overdue Work, November 8, 2005
This review is from: Show Trains of the 20th Century (Paperback)
This is a good companion work to Dahlinger's Trains of the Circus and covers the other shows that were carried by rail during the heyday of rail transported shows. There are some little seen photos of show trains. For example, Howard Y.Bary's 3 car African Zoo traveling menagerie is pictured, along with great photos of the old Wild West shows (Buffalo Bills, 101 Ranch, Col. Tim McCoy short-lived show, etc.), "Uncle Tom" and theater shows, dog & pony shows, and carnival shows such as Royal American, Cetlin & Wilson, Foley & Burk, Endy Bros. and a lot more. Circus history fans and train buffs will like this book a lot. Though mainly a photo album, Mr. Dahlinger's captions with each picture give a surprising amount of historical detail about the shows whose rolling stock is pictured.
