No more studio albums please!,
By
This review is from: Show (Audio CD)
I have been a YMSB fan all the way back since Elevation was released. While the early studio albums (Elevation and Town by Town) were excellent progressive bluegrass, the most recent studio releases from YMSB (YMSB and The Show) are overprocessed, poorly mixed, and completely lacking the energy and passion that makes YMSB so great live. I would not recommend this album to anyone, especially diehard fans.

What should have been a good album ruined by poor production,
This review is from: Show (Audio CD)
Like their previous studio effort, Yonder Mountain String Band's album, The Show, is ruined alone by terrible production by Tom Rothrock. The majority of the vocals are overprocessed, the stringed instruments sounding shrill and hollow, and what passes for a layer of gloss made up of sheer unnecessary compression.
I am a longtime fan who wishes Yonder would enlist a producer with real vision and a true ear. As long as they stick with Rothrock as a producer, expect more mediocre product like this one. The acoustic "bonus" CD is much better, just because of Rothrock *not* being involved.

What happens when you add drums to bluegrass.....,
This review is from: Show (Audio CD)
It turns into rural pop (AKA Modern country). Seriously, Most of the stuff on here sounds like the Barenaked ladies tried to go country. What has happenned to you yonder, and please tell me this phase won't last long!
