No more studio albums please!,
By
This review is from: Show (Audio CD)
I have been a YMSB fan all the way back since Elevation was released. While the early studio albums (Elevation and Town by Town) were excellent progressive bluegrass, the most recent studio releases from YMSB (YMSB and The Show) are overprocessed, poorly mixed, and completely lacking the energy and passion that makes YMSB so great live. I would not recommend this album to anyone, especially diehard fans.

What should have been a good album ruined by poor production,
This review is from: Show (Audio CD)
Like their previous studio effort, Yonder Mountain String Band's album, The Show, is ruined alone by terrible production by Tom Rothrock. The majority of the vocals are overprocessed, the stringed instruments sounding shrill and hollow, and what passes for a layer of gloss made up of sheer unnecessary compression.
I am a longtime fan who wishes Yonder would enlist a producer with real vision and a true ear. As long as they stick with Rothrock as a producer, expect more mediocre product like this one. The acoustic "bonus" CD is much better, just because of Rothrock *not* being involved.

What happens when you add drums to bluegrass.....,
This review is from: Show (Audio CD)
It turns into rural pop (AKA Modern country). Seriously, Most of the stuff on here sounds like the Barenaked ladies tried to go country. What has happenned to you yonder, and please tell me this phase won't last long!

Additional Disk Availiable On Yonder's Site,
This review is from: Show (Audio CD)
When I purchased the album at the concert it had an additional disk rubber banded to the outside of the album. The disk is labeled something like "The Show Solo Acoustic Recordings". It has turned into one of my favorite Yonder recordings. The disk features the same track listing. Each track is played by what seems to be only one member. They take turns on different tracks. The solo performance bring out an emotion that is very powerful. The quality of the songs is revealed without the fluff that is on the studio album. It is stripped down to a beautiful state. This is the version that many of the fans would expect to hear. I highly recommend that you find a copy of the album that includes this disk. I am not sure if it is on amazon but the disk is available as a combo on their website for a limited time only.

Everyone just calm down,
By
This review is from: The Show (MP3 Download)
Everyone needs to calm down with the negative reviews of this album. YMSB and The Show are much different from yonder's other studio albums, yes. The jam scene is based on the idea of experimentation. So yes these albums are different, still good, just different. So heres what you do. Do you love Yonder? Get this album. Do you like yonder? Start with elevation -> town by town -> then go nuts. Not sure yet, go to yondermountainlive and pick out a set from your hometown. Either way, at some point your gonna come back for this album, so just buy the dang thing now. Any yonder is great yonder. 5 STARS BABY!!!!!

A strange but interesting album. Having seen them in concert since this album was produced, I can assure y'all the rehab was successful. Yeah, its a little much, but I accept it as a youthful transgression and actually find it very entertaining.

Yonder Mountain Show,
This review is from: The Show (MP3 Download)
Yonder Mountain String Band's "The Show" is a great musical piece. It has a great track listing showing the versatility of the band. Every track is likable, and there's at least a few tracks everyone will fall in love with. Memorial Day weekend 2011, she your own Yonder Mountain show at Delfest!

Not sure why this album is getting a bad rap.,
This review is from: Show (Audio CD)
Sure this album is different from their previous work, doesn't mean it's not quality music, doesn't mean they've sold out. This album features some great songs, that only get better with repeated listening. Maybe some of the listeners prematurely judged this cd, give it at least a few spins. I purchased this album at a show, was signed by the band and came with a bonus Solo acoustic version of the album, which is also stellar.

YMSB - The Show,
This review is from: Show (Audio CD)
I have a few older Yonder Mountain String Band albums and really enjoyed them. I liked their modern take on bluegrass/ folksy/ Americana music. So when my friend said he had the newest one "The Show" I had to borrow it. While driving home listening to it, I had to pop it out and double-check it to make sure he didn't give me a different CD.
I don't know what happened on this album. There's lot of drums and other instruments to make it sound more like a real more-modern country group. Sorry guys, but news flash, new country-pop is awful. Their classic fancy guitar pickin' bluegrass-y stuff has really been subdued/ toned down on this album. To me, this screams of selling out, crossing over, or the band moving in unwelcome directions. For the traditionalists and hardcore fans, I'm guessing they will hate this new album. I'm glad I only borrowed my friend's copy. If he hadn't told me this was YMSB, he easily could have fooled me into thinking it was someone else. Not recommended unless you're a big fan of newer country-pop.

The Show is Fearless!,

This review is from: Show (Audio CD)
I am surprised that so many "long-time" YMSB fans are not pleased with this album. To me, this album represents what makes YMSB so great! It is not just innovative, they take major chances that most artists would not dare consider for a studio album. Sure, a couple songs miss, but others are classics. This is progressive bluegrass folks! If you want traditional bluegrass, go buy a Stanley Brothers album. (those are great too!) This album feels like it was written for a new generation of open-minded, progressive bluegrass fans. Like me. I love it.
