In this volume Frank Robbins takes the writing to a more realistic level. It's still sprinkled with sometimes corny gangster and youth speak, but Batman is more of a detective than he had been for decades.

The art is mainly by Irv Novick and Bob Brown making it the best the late 60s had to offer besides Neal Adams.

To me this is the foundation of what made Batman great.

While the stories are simple, they are still fun to reread. Artwork is uncomplicated and not fancy, but it to is fun to look at after all these years. This is not the Bat as we have come to know him today, but it is still alot of fun to remember where he was in the 70's before Neal adams arrived. Fun, Fun, Fun!

This compilation is excellent. This is what souperhero comics are all about. These are before the "modernization" of classic characters. Before the marketing guys figured how they could capitalize on the wholesomeness of these beloved characters. Before the big and small screen adaptations basically changed what we came to love all those years ago.
